I was woundering if their is a way to make my car start with out pushing the clutch in? I had a 1998 jeep wrangler and all you had to do is pull a fuse and put one in a different place the owners manual told you how to do this mod and it was kick a$$. I don't want to hack my car thoe any input?

I wanted to do the same thing, so I stuck my head under the dash and saw a plunger type switch that is on the back side of the clutch pedal arm. When the pedal is down, it pushes the switch in, thus the ignition will work.

I plan to check the wiring to see if a jumper wire will close the curciut, but in the meantime I did what any self-respecting do-it-yerselfer would do, I wrapped it with DUCT TAPE!

It's permanently closed, then I secured the switch up out of the way of the pedals so the wires would be safe.

I find it's convienent sometimes to start the car from outside, and told myself that I'd *never* try to start it when it was in gear. You know what I did the next week, yup I tried to start it while it was in gear, DOH!

Thinking about it I'm pretty sure the jumper wire will work, it's just finding the tiny male/female connectors that's a problem.

Have fun!

I did this on my 86 Ranger. You just "close" the switch that the clutch pedal hit when it is fully depressed.

HOWEVER, I would STRONGLY reccomend not doing this. There were quite a few times that I forgot and my car would jump forward and I looked like an idiot.

I had been driving a lot of cars that did have the clutch switch and it's a very nice safety feature.

Also... when I was like 2 my dad didn't push the clutch in when he started his old Monte Carlo and they had to replace a garage door

What about the cruise control? I would thinkg that you would not be able to set the cruise if it is permanently closed. Just a thought.

Not an issue, since I don't have CC.

There are two plunger switches - one is depressed when the clutch pedal is fully depressed (this is the one discussed above), and another switch that is depressed when the pedal is fully released. It is this second switch that affects the CC - as soon as you push the pedal enough to release the switch plunger, the CC disengages. This switch also sends a signal to the stupid upshift light - hint hint
