I think GM would have to get into WRC with this car and sell it globally for anyone to take it seriously. C'mon, how many of you considered a Hyundai Accent after watching WRC in 2002ish? :)
Hmmm.

If the accent came with that sweet arse WRC spec engine, I would have. In 2002 Hyundai was practically giving thier cars away.

If Chevie was to put the Aveo in the WRC, they would have to do a hell of a lot better than 140-some odd horses to coax me. Chevie would probably set the MSRP to 30,000 for 300+ horses in a Aveo.

I hope ford has an answer to this
They do... The Fiesta is gonna kick the Aveo's ass, and I won't be the least bit surprised.

GM has its powertrain worked out, but the rest of the car is just a ****box.

This will be built on the new aveo, not the current one. I hope they don't stick with the RS name, they'll ruin it. And since ford has pretty much said their high end low cylinder cars will be RS and v8 equipped will be SVT I really want ford to jump on this first

Aveo aside, the monikers between Ford and Chevy's performance cars is a real issue that I see. Chevy has been using the 'RS' badge along with the 'SS' on and off since the 60's. Ford Europe has always used the 'RS', but there are also no Chevy 'RS' models over there to cause any confusion.

If Ford America starts using 'RS' over here, like we all wish they would, I think that it would cause conflict with any smaller models that Chevy chooses to brand with an 'RS' moniker. People might get an idea in their head that Ford and Chevy are in cahoots! lol. But more than likely, if something like the Aveo get an 'RS' model, it will tarnish the reputation of any smaller cars that Ford names 'RS'

"Man, I had an Aveo RS and what a waste that was.... What's that? You just bought a Fiesta RS? I'm sorry, that has to be just as bad. It's not? I'll believe it when I see it."

Not saying it makes sense, but from a marketing standpoint, that's how the average Joe will see it.

...well until they are put in a comparo test  then people will be using "" round the RS for Chevy, and Ford's in bold font

We hope, lol.

Maybe Chevy will call a cease and desist once people start calling it the Aveo "RS" like they called the last gen Impala an "SS"

Not really deserving of the name....

^ Yeah but it hasnt been as sluttish as the "SS" Badge. That thing got around recently. HHR SS, Cobalt SS, Montycarlo SS, Trailbalzer SS, Segway SS...

Tarnish may be better than whoredom in this case...

(Segway SS  If it was a Chevy to begin with, I think it would have happened)

but cosworth has had their spread on many many many cars (ford, chevy, mercedes, F1, Lotus, etc), a few bad apples really couldn't put a dent in them.

...and lets leave COSWORTH out of a thread concerning a ChevyAveo, mmm k?:p

If Chevrolet releases an Aveo RS with a turbo, I'll give them total kudos for being the first company to release a hot subcompact hatch in the U.S. in years—build quality and such aside.

We don't have any true hot subcompacts (sans the MINI Cooper S) stateside. Perhaps it'd generate some interest by other manufacturers.

Yea.. cuz the mazdaspeed3 is the size of a small ship, and its slow as molasses ;).

Ill have to disagree with giving kudos to them. I dont view 138hp, 148tq as being "Hot". Especially when the car has to be turboed to get it. Im willing to bet an equivalent mazda with a duratec 2.0l will be faster, cheaper, and get better mileage.

But I do agree that we have a lack of hot-hatches, If somebody would get off their arse, and build a 230-270hp rwd/4wd hot hatch, and price it reasonably, it would kill the competition. (ford, if ur reading this hint... hint... hint....)

The Aveo current is a rebadged Daewoo Kalos. The new Aveo will be an Aveo in name only. As a matter of fact they may change the name (Viva has been mentioned*). I would suggest that they DO change the name.

It will share underpinnings with the new Opel Corsa, and could be a decent entry into the segment.

*It's been unclear whether Viva is the new name of the Aveo, or indeed a separate model (an upscale B-Segment).

The current Aveo had pretty good press and it wasn't such a terrible car when it was initially released but like many older GM products has lived on past its expiration date. When you consider price there are also much better alternatives now than there was when it came out.

GMDAT (GM Daewoo Auto & Technology) is still doing most the development work on the next Corsa and Aveo and it's not necessarily a bad thing. Like the other Korean cars they've been improving leaps and bounds in recent years, just that Hyundai and Kia at a faster pace and into more segments. GMDAT has primarily stuck to the entry level and small cars but looking at the new Cruze and others shows a lot of promise for the next Aveo.
