Do you rev your engine excessively?

Well do you? There's a guy who looks to be between 18-21 years old at work who I swear is overly obsessed with his SRT-4. Don't get me wrong, the SRT-4 is quite nice considering I have never really been into the Neon body style, but hey not the point. Anyways, everyday the guy drives up and down the parking lot reving his engine loudly looking for a parking space, when there's like 50+ spaces open. Mind you, the guy also runs an open downpipe. If he's lucky enough to get a front parking, it's the same thing....rev my motor so everyone in Texas and the surrounding states can hear. Now, I've been into car since I was a kid and have had my share of loud cars, one being turbo...which yes I did run open downpipe, but only when going out to the track. Never in my life have I ever reved my engine pointlessly. What's deal? Is this an SRT-4 thing? Sorry...just had to vent.

I like revving in tunnels... One of the only times I get to hear what my car sounds like from outside... other than someone else driving it..... (yeah right...)

I like to rev mine sometimes because I like all the rattles and stuff the engine makes and squeaks that the throttle body butterfly makes as well as the rattle the vcts(i think that is what it is called) thing in the intake manifold.

I love the many sounds of a mazda engine.

Really with my SVT I dont...the 2.0 is not the worlds smoothest and with a 26lb flywheel, its not about the revs anyway
The D20 sounds pretty awesome when you you blip the throttle up to the redline, especially with a high flow cat. Burbles from the exhaust and whistling from the intake mixed with the revs...I don't really do it when there are lot of people around though. I know how annoying it can get for bystanders. :bang:

Whiteboyslo loved reving it in the garage when he got home from work to announce his presence though, haha. Something about having 8 cylinders I guess. I wouldn't know.

I only rev when I'm trying to show off.

I have a Mustang, so 2 tailpipes/4 headlights = V8. Any car guy should know that right off the bat and know what I'm working with - and take his chance.

If he chooses to try and take me off the line, he's 99.9% likely to be very sad when I pass him up - no matter WHAT he is driving. No over-rev needed.

That .01% is saved for Vipers, Z06's mostly. I can usually out shift anyone for the first 4 seconds with my ultra quick & tiny hands ;)

When I had my old ZX3 which had engine modifications I used to enjoy revving it going through tunnels in Pittsburgh, and even with my current ZX3 I sometimes give it a little rev when pulling into a parking space, but for the most part I'm with hEat, I save my flaunting for when I'm driving something faster than 112WHP :)

Excessively?

No, not any more. I think that's a yout thing... :p

'Throttle jockey' is what a friend of mine calls it.

It's another thing entirely, though, to have amazing throttle response in a car that makes all the right noises: that's when I heel-and-toe downshift more than I might need to. LOL. Ask airforcefocus...

These days I use only the revs I need for the situation. I've a fairly big four banger; it pulls really well at part throttle in the midrange (2500 - 4000) and it's a street car. But because of it's trans (four speed liquid transaxle) and it's gearing (tall...), I spend a lot of time in second with the revs from 3000 - 6000 while in the twisties.

Though I run only a high quality, high performance full synthetic motor oil and am not concerned with engine wear, I would like to know what my oil temps climb to with those higher revs so a good (expensive) mechanical oil temp guage is next on the list.

I don't. Usually if it's revvin', I'm hell bent to get on the freeway or something. Being as I have a puny 4.6 in a 4500lb car, I have to make sure I get out of my own way, first.

But I'd love to have train horns for dorks like that (they're all over OC). Pull up next to him on one of his undecisive/ricer-burnout moments and give him 180 db of 300psi pleasure.

No need to rev here, I let my ever-whining blower do the talking. ;) And like someone said, the Focus doesn't sound good when revving, but in my car at least, esp shifting from 1st to 2nd and then hitting WOT, the sound is like sex to the ears with the Borla/ORP combo.

Not much, but then again a V8 without mufflers demands it.
Indeed it does:evilgrin:  , I was driving my father in-laws truck and i somehow i broke the exhaust under the cabin(lowered Truck+ Speed Bump = broken Exhaust) and well he didn't find out:D , but i had a blast driving it like that for 20 minutes until i got it fixed

indeed.. my non daily driver.... 83' chevy w/ built small block runs 1-5/8" primaries.... 3" collectors... and about 3 ft of 2.5" stainless.... lobes quite nicely too.... i easily set off car alarms at idle.... if close by... and can set off a whole parkinglot if i give it a nice 5500rpm run.... the cops really love me around here with their gay noise ordinance... and the fact that the only thing on their force that i cant out-run besides the radio is there 98 SS camaro that so happends to be on the bottle... friggin cops...

ALL the time
whenever i pull out of a spot and i have to reverse, the revs dont go below 5500rpm. when im in first and rying to move forward, then its always above 6000rpm.
the only time i dont rev above 5000rpm is when there is a cop in the area.

but seriously, no i dont, and i find that very annoying. there was a kid around here that took his dads C6 to school (college) and he would rev that crap like crazy. whenever someone was in the area, he would just start the car up and start reving, doesnt matter if young or old. he would still rev it up to the red line.
