Does the spi use the same tranmistion as the zetec if they are both automatic?

Hey, yes and no. It's the same transmission but they have different gear ratio's. You car would accelerate a little faster if you put a zetec trans in.

could you just change the ratio? and were would be the cheepest way to get one and where?

I'm sure you could change the final drive ratio, it would cost alot though. Might as well get it rebuilt with stronger clutch packs and a better tourque converter while your at it.

Probably cheaper to just get a low mileage used zetec tranny from a junkyard, car-parts.com or ebay.

if you're looking to put a lot of torque to the ground (110 wtq or more) and you don't mind spending, performance automatic and lentech are two options to think about. A PA zetec tranny will cost 1700, a Lentech 2k...at least last time I checked prices.
