As some know, I sold my SVT quite some time ago and replaced it with a turbo'd miata, which was pretty crazy fast, just not to practical. I coupled that with a Tacoma truck which was used to tow my kart (which I no longer own). So with the possibility of a new job coming and no need for a towing vehicle, I decided to swap the two cars for one more practical car...
My requirements were simple... Fun to Drive, Truly seats 4, Some sense of luxury, and not "a dime a dozen" type of car... It came down to the Audi A3 and the Mini Clubman JCW (John Cooper Works). The Mini won hands down, the A3 has the sexier exterior, but the "fun to drive" award went hands down to the Mini...
The clubman is hardly the best looking car on the road, but honestly when you're behind the wheel, you love the car. This is everything my SVT was to me, just better in every category except mabye looks. More Power, Better Handling (yes better handling), more luxury, better built, and even more rare than the SVT
So here it is in all it's 4x4 glory...
The interior, and you can see in the 2nd pic, why we needed the clubman and not the regular mini.
There will be very little if any engine mods on this car. However I will be replacing every piece of exterior chrome with carbon fiber replacements (yes they are readily available parts).
And I'm going to throw a set of 18x8 Axis Widetrack wheels on the car with 225/35/18 tires. I'd go 17x8 but the only tire that has a good rotating diameter to match with stock is a 235/35/17 which is tough to fit. So I moved up to 18's which will probably work given the "bus" like nature of this car.
