Focus V8 Conversion

I want opinions from at least every member on the Jet!

If you had the money....would you do the whole V8 Conversion on your Focus? Why or why not.

My say:

I'm planning on doing the V8 Conversion in the future. My whole family thinks I'm crazy. I may be crazy, but I love the Focus. I could go with a nice car in the future, but I want the Focus to be part of my life as I age to a prune-like state.

I know it's kind of a waste to do something like this to a car that's only worth 12K...but just thinking of having a V8 in such a tiny compact car makes me drool.

I daydream about it. Having a V8 Focus, no one will know until I start the motor...it would be a nice suprise. Ownage will come with the package as well.

At the sametime, it would be scary to have all that power...

What are your thoughts?

Everything you would need hard parts-wise is in the FRPP Fast Focus catalog. But unless you use an injected motor with it's ECU and OE catalytic convertors, you won't pass an emissions test and prolly won't be able to get it registered for highway use depending on where you live.

I've read both good and bad reviews on this kind of conversion.

My opinion: If you want to do it for rear drive in a Focus, fine. If you want to do it just for the V8, go buy a used Camaro.

I am in the very infancy of planning a rear-drive Focus project that will use a turbocharged Duratec four based on a Ranger block, perhaps using the Jaguar X-type's rear suspension.

My whole idea is that I want to make these two facts not mutually exclusive:

A) I like the Focus.
B) I don't like FWD cars.

You're also giving up a pretty good independent rear suspension for a metal tree trunk between the back tires.

Hey, do what you want though, right?

I came very close to starting the same project this summer. Money, not the problem... had a budget of $15 grand ready to rock and roll. Time was the kicker, just don't have enough of it. I will be going V8 in another sense, it takes less time and a little more money to just go and order an 06 Mustang GT.

yes i would.. and its because of the ZX351 ive seen... that thing is buisness.. but think of gas mileage and fuel costs... that one thing i love about my zetec.. only 22$ to fill tank and it goes for a week

If i had the way and the means to do it i would for sure go for it. I would love to have a 2800 ish pound car with 400 hp and 400 tq or more then be at the track and people see you rolling up to the line next to a loud mustang and they think all the sound is from it and you are gonna get stomped then the smoke starts pouring from the rear wheels and stang gets owned. and you could make it handle to. Its a fantastic thing. I would love to have a rear drive built 2.3 turbo with 350 to the wheels too though could make that handle better. The 2.3 rear driver would be easier to matinence because there would still be room in the engine bay. The v8 to do anything that is not right on top you have to damn near disassemble the whole thing.

I would love to have the ATI cobra/focus

It would come after other vehicles though.

pssh, I'd do the v8 conversion in a heartbeat! Its not exactly a pure bolt on situtation. It does require some sheetmetal work and a donor mustang would be nice unless you go with a carb'ed setup. Anyways have a good one and good luck

The 302 GT-40 Aluminum Head Engine and Kugel RWD Conversion are on my "list" although they are at the bottom with some of the other dreamer stuff. But I agree, the sheer sight of a focus smoking the rear wheels is awesome. I have that RS8 fold-out from Focus Fanatic a few issues back on my desk at work. I've had more than one person say: "The focus isn't rear wheel drive is it??" To which I say: "That one is."

BUT, when/if I do it, I'd want to get a stripped down base model ZX3 and gut it, I'd hate to take my SVT and get rid of all the other fun stuff.

I sent that ZX351 video to some guys at work, to which they responed "Why?"

Some people just don't get it...

I would love to do it, there was a time I would stay up at night just thinking of roasting the rear tires at a stop light just to see other peoples faces. Or pulling into a cruise in with a bunch of old guys who are all wondering what a new car is doing there until I pop the hood and they relize it isn't a little [censored] box.

The other side of me says for the money it would take to buy the donor car for parts I could have a rebuilt 350 and between my brother and me, we could find something to put it in for next to nothing and be running 13's at track.
