The capless fuel filler Ford developed for the Ford GT is making its way across the company's Ford and Lincoln-Mercury line in the next several years, the company says, starting with the 2008 Lincoln MKS. Instead of cappage, the models will have a flap that opens when pressed with the gas pump nozzle, and it'll keep fumes from escaping -- a feature the company is applying to its environmentally sensitive messaging. Having lost a few hundred gas caps -- running over one such that it shot out and nearly took out the attendant's eye -- we heartily approve.

1. Environmental issues
2. The "greying" of America*
*The average age of the average American is climbing. There will be more and more designs catering to this need. Many people with arthritis cannot open a gas cap easily.
yep. you can get the same thing at Advance Auto now too, but made by Stant.OmniFocus said:Sounds like a Permacap.... that one you can buy at BAT.
Yeah, let's get all the "crips" off the streets. :screwy:Maxximtl said:If you are physically unable to remove the fuel cap on your car, you probably shouldn't be driving it.

You mean the one that is bound to trigger your "check gas cap" light?Jared said:yep. you can get the same thing at Advance Auto now too, but made by Stant.OmniFocus said:Sounds like a Permacap.... that one you can buy at BAT.

That's all right. I've got one better. I lost the gas cap on my truck and now just drive around with a rag stuffed into the filler tube.OmniFocus said:I have a superior 2000 model year car... no such light.![]()

If you are too arthritic to open a gas cap, should you really be driving a car?focaljet-1 said:*The average age of the average American is climbing. There will be more and more designs catering to this need. Many people with arthritis cannot open a gas cap easily.
I don't believe they are 'catering' to people with arthritis. They are making a change that is apparently better for the environment, while at the same time less work for the arthritic...02_smurf said:I don't see why they need to cater to people with arthritis. Maybe the upscale car or two, but not all of them.....
oohh nooooeozzzz they have to because if they don't, then the arthritis ppl are gonna sue sue sue! america.....america.....02_smurf said:I don't see why they need to cater to people with arthritis. Maybe the upscale car or two, but not all of them.....
