FR Head Cam Shimming Q\'s
Ok...it's finally time to get this crap going. I'm tired of having all these parts sitting around mocking me.
I've got a FR head and Crane 3's sitting around that I need to get busy with and get put together (all new and scored off ebay for less than the average retail price of a FR head I must add!). I was having a look around fordnewparts.com and for ordering the lifters and shims, you have to order by size (thickness). I have several questions pertaining to this-
1) Does anyone know the range of sizes of these components (lifters and shims)?
2) Can I order an uniform thinkness of lifter, measure clearances, then order shims based on that? What thickness lifter would you recommend to get the process started?
3) Can I somehow measure and determine the thickness for both lifter and shim, then order needed thicknesses all at once?
4) Will I need other parts or gaskets? I have cam seals (2), a new timing belt (80k on oem one), head gasket, head, cams, a 2k manifold (gasket needed?), and a set of 1 step colder plugs. Also have 24lb injectors...no maf yet. These will be set aside till later if I even need them.
5) I am not going to mill the head at this time until I decided where I want to go in the future with the car, will I need to run 93 oct when all is said and done?
