NorCal fam, I have to vent a little.

I have a boy on my little leave team, his name is Tyler. He's a very nice young man. He lives with his single mother who's a recovering alcoholic. She's been clean for a while now. His dad however is not.

Last friday was his 10th birthday. His dad showed up to the party for an hour with no presents. He said he wouldn't chip in cause Tyler's mom won't give up custody. Well his mom can barely pay rent so Tyler didn't get any presents. Then his dad proceeded to leav and get smashed where by he returned later to crash the party.

The kid had no cleats, no bat or bag, he wears last years pants and socks, and his mothers old softball glove. The glove is totally trashed and huge for him. So my brother and I decided that's not going to fly. So today I went and go a bag, bat, two baseballs, and cleats. My brother is going to get him a glove and were throwing him a party. I wish I could afford a helmet and new pants, socks, belt and the lot too.

I'd really like to kick the crap out of his dad too.

Yeah, dads ruin everything. Mine is a jerk, too. You'd never believe me if I told you what he told his third wife about us.

Try looking online for sports equipment. You can find smoking deals online for everything he will need and a lot of places are offering free shipping for orders over $x amount of dollars.

When I worked at a liquor store dads would often come in with their kids. Dad would plunk down a 12'er. Kid wanted a 50 cent candy bar. Dad would look at the kid and say "No. I can't afford candy for you every time we come in. Put it back".

Way to go ass-hat. Buy a 6-pack and a candy bar for your kid.

Micah, you have a good soul to take this kid under your wing and get him some basics in life. He'll never forget you.

That's the whole reason I coach. If I can help one kid than all the practices and tough parents and late dinners or missed six flags trips are worth it. I just fell bad for Ty cause I doubt his dad will ever change. I just hope baseball can bring him some happiness, joy, and relief in a world of stress and difficulty as it does for me. I can't imagine life with out baseball and my family and coaches I've had over the years.

Ugh I dont feel comfortable sharing my personal issues publically but yeah, I'm with you it's really disturbing how little many care for their children. It's often a dependency or selfishness that is the root cause but I've found it's sometimes pure laziness.

And yet they still get the title: 'Mom' or 'Dad'.

I think it's great that your helping this kid out!

i agree, there is a difference between a father and a dad... i dont have a father, i have a dad. no mom, but a mother who i couldnt tell you the first thing about.

houdini, you may end up doing more for this kid than his own flesh and blood does, my hat is off to you

I would order something online I just don't think it'll be here in time. I want to give him this to him before our game on Thursday.

I'll kick down a few bucks for a party fund. You has teh paypal?

(this cracks me up, if you talked to my ex you'd think I was the worst mom in the world, meanwhile Rylie has a new iPad, new clothes, I call her every night, and dutifully pay his child support - which used to be his aprilia payment - every month.... oh well. )

You could probably find some good secondhand stuff on Craigslist from kids that have grown out of it?

Wow kris. That would mean a lot to me. You really don't have to do that. If its really on your heart I won't turn it down because I know what it's like to have something hit home and want to help. I do have PayPal. Do u just need my email addy for the account?

I really didn't expect that kris. I didn't post expecting or hoping for help or charity. I'm kind of overwhelmed. I absolutely love my NorCal family.

It'll be fun. The league gives us sponsorship coupons from a local Mountain Mikes for 50 bucks in pizza to hold team meetings. We're talking to our league sponsor to see if we can use one to throw him a small birthday party with our team.

Thank you guys. Sheds Tear. :hearts:

i don't know how to do that. I just use paypal to pay my tithe.

#20 ·
I'll throw down too, much better than giving to a fund with loads of overhead cost. Straight to the source. Micah, is it your gmail account you have tied to PayPal?

#21 ·
I too am requesting your paypal addy.

#25 ·
No. It's a different email. Will pm aaron

#27 ·
Micah, I am gonna need that addy as well.

My Father had, let's just say, a pretty tough childhood. He broke that cycle. His father wasn't the kindest guy, and yet, my Father is my hero.

You are going to be an amazing father some day.

I have a baseball glove and a bat that I'll literally never use. If you want it, it's yours. Lemma know.

I'd keep those Mike. One day you'll need 'em. Everyone should have one if they can. We'll be playing softball this summer with church and some other friends you and Tala should come. I'll PM you sir. Thank you. You guys are all wonderful people.
