Fuel Capacity?

Ok guys I did a search and found nothing that relates to this.

On the Ford website they claim that all Focus' have a 14 gallon fuel tank. I haven't tested this but when the gas light comes on and I fill up I get around 11.5 gallons.

Either I got screwed with a small tank, the specs are wrong, we have a 2.5 reserve after the fuel light comes on, or the sending unit doesn't register the correct fuel level.

I am sure someone here has run there tank dry and knows the correct amount for the total tank volume.

Thanks.

When my gas light comes on, I can only put a max of 10.5 - 11 US gallons (41 - 43.5 liters). The owners manual says the tank holds 53 liters (14 gallons). So, for me, I have a little over 1/8 left in the tank, I guess. I don't plan on testing how far I can go with the light on, but I'm guessing I should be good for about 50-60 Km's (31 - 38 miles).

A few years ago a local news station was doing a special report on some of the gas stations that were intentionally miscalibrated so that you'd be paying for more gas then what actually came out of the pump. Then they started getting even more clever & having them read accurately at 1, 5, & 10 gal. (for state regulatory checks) but still short you in between. They said one of the things to look out for was if you lock the pump handle in position the gallons & total cost should increase at a steady rate. If one is slowing down or speeding up weird then there could be a problem.

i have put 14.2 in before.... not fun, i dont know how i made it to the station...
Another possibility is that you made it in on fumes (as we used to say).

The additional .2 was the fuel in the filler neck 'cause you tripletoppeditoff. LOL.

My got, it's torture to participate in these forums. All this and no answer, he's looking for a fact, not when your lite comes on or how many miles you drove. A FACT. Doesn't anyone have an owners manual. My manual (03), p 196 states: 2.0 Liter 13.2 gallons, 2.3 liter 14.0 gallons. No reason for further comments-he's got his answer (in gallons, if in Canada, convert)

Relax.

These are discussion forums and yes, most everyone here has a Ford Focus Owners Guide; it comes with the car.

People like to talk about everything related to fuel capacity and when that includes fuel mileage and the time that someone almost ran out of gas, the thread remains on topic. You are just about the only one that went off topic, so shut it.

I'm in Canada, so don't mind my metric ;)

I worked it out on the SPI (and it seems a tad out of whack on the Duratec, tank size notes above may explain why) - I got 10L for every quarter tank "indicated" on the gauge. When I filled as soon as the light came on (right at the "empty" line, but not on it directly), I put in ~40L of gas.

If the SPI's tank held 53L as per the manual, and there was 13L left in the tank... that converts to about 3.4 gallons.

But, according to my math (1 gallon = 3.78 litres, no?)... 14 gallons is 53 L.

So is the Duratec tank larger than 14 gallons? Or... did all the CDN Foci only come with the larger tanks?

My manual's out in the car and I don't feel like freezing my nuts off right now. :(
