fuel, pump

i was going from ma. to n.c and my fuel pump clogged in virginia.thanks god i had extended warranty so it was covered but now i ask myself why did it go at 52,000 miles.does anyone if theres been a problem with the fuel pump

Depends what year. It's a known defect in pre-'02, though Ford doesn't openly admit it. Do a search, you'll find LOTS of info here on it. Although I think most topics are in the TEAM Tech section.

I did and I think I heard about a half of dozen other FJ members having that problem also...
Too bad unlike you, I didn't have the extended warrenty..
Had to pay something like 550 bucks to have it fixed!!!

By the way, how much is it for an extended warrenty? How long does it last and how much does it cover on your car?

Serious question: You've been on the Jet for a couple years and you had never heard of the pump problem?

I have an 01 ZX3. With less than 22k miles I had to have mine replaced. I would get to about 1/4 tank and the car would hesatate or die in turns or at stops. The Ford dealer tech stated that the fuel pumps are weak. Warranty covered the new pump, but I had them r/r the fuel filter at that time. Cost $52. This time.
