Interview With Team Fusion: More Colors, Performance In The Future.

(Dearborn, MI) FusionUnleashed.com - Analysts, consumers and journalists all seem to agree that the Ford Fusion has proven to be a worthy competitor to foreign nameplates. The Fusion has been accepted in the car World because it has a great design appeal, is well equipped, well built and priced just right.

This past Thursday (13 March), we had the chance to interview the Ford Fusion Team Brand Manager, Dan Geist in Dearborn, Michigan.
Many people posted questions for Mr. Geist on the FusionUnleashed message boards. Some of the questions we asked were general in nature while a few of them were a little tougher. For example, we asked why Ford did not make the Fusion with standard air bags and if “made in Mexico” was hurting Fusion sales. And a question on everyone's mind - will there be a performance version of the Fusion?

Even though it was a typical cold and dreary March “Motown” day, Dan was happy to answer those questions and even offer Fusion enthusiasts exclusive information on what we can expect to see from the Fusion Team in the future.

For starters, the 2007 Ford Fusion will get a boost in horsepower, probably from Ford's new 3.5L V6 engine. While there will not be an ST or SVT Fusion in 2007, Geist said that Fusion consumers will be pleased with Ford's progress towards an ST type of vehicle as they move toward the 2008 and 2009 model years.

Ford will also spice up the Fusion's color palette with a “pearl” purple, expand the red exterior colors and even add a red interior color option.

It seems like good news to me.. although I would like to see the ST version faster, it usually takes Mazda 3 years to come up with MS version as well..

I want to see and SHO version, They have a good 3.0L motor now put a decent suspension on it, bigger brakes, lighten it up a tad and FTLOC, get a standard transmission version available!

That is all...

Yes just having a 5-speed or 6-speed OPTION for the V6 would be such a nice improvement

In the 90's, ford releasing a "Purple" option for the car usually meant it's days were numbered.

Look at the probe and the 2nd gen Escort, for example.

We had a purple Tracer come into my workplace awhile back and the guy tried to tell me it was some special edition because of the color. We just laughed at the car in private

with the 3.5l, standard SAB/ABS etc and optional AWD, the Fusion will be a very attractive package.

make the ST 5 or 6speed, keep it FWD (leave AWD for MS6) and give it stiffer suspension and slightly better exhaust, tune up the engine a litle bit and add some interior details and you are done.

I think / hope the ST designation could will hopefully be used as in Europe.. to designate slightly more enthusistic "street car", leaving space for extreme high performer of the type of RS on appripriate cars...

Fusion is doing well... I hope it will continue.

Howard, is someone posting under your name? Seems like a very un-Howard post.

You guys did a great job with the Fusion.

For the most part the aftermarket usually does very well with making an ordinary automobile much more attractable.

I don't care for the Fusion at all, especially not in stock form.

This particular class of automobiles isn't my choice at all.

I would much rather get a Lexus, VW Jetta or even a Mazda 6.

IMO Ford should have made a better Focus and brought the Fiesta and worked on the 500.

I just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel for the Fusion.

The "gay" comment seemed suitable for today.
