Do any of you guys know the boost efficiency range of this turbo? I always thought it was in the range of 20-24psi but I'm starting now to wonder if this turbo is too small to hold my 18-20psi till redline. I still can't get boost to hold at 18psi.

Just realized tonight that the pressure is even dropping below my wastegate pressure. It dropped down to 8psi near 7,000rpm from 18psi and my wastegate is rated at around 11psi.

Hmmm....with an internal wastegate? I'd say either the vacuum line going to it is FUBAR or the diaphragm itself is messed up. Did it get banged up against something in the install process, or perhaps shipping?

Are you still running the turbosmart boost controller or did you happen to pick up the e-boost2 yet? I never had any issues with boost creep or loss when I was using the MBC...

Interesting. If you turn ALL of the settings ALL of the way down (besides gate pressure, leave that at the default setting), the pressure should be whatever your wastegate pressure is set at. If you mess around with the sensitivity you should be able to fix boost falling off at higher rpms, but i wouldn't think that would be a big issue with your turbo in the first place...

If it were only dropping to like 16psi I would say maybe the turbo is too small but dropping to 8 you have some other problem. It could be a combination of things.

too small for 25psi maybe but you should be able to run 20 all day long. that turbo should be good for at least 400whp.

sorry it is good of at least 396whp. that is what focussport made with it on their street tuner challenge car!

That wasn't a straight 2871 ;)

FS makes their own ****tails.

But yes, a 2871 is mid 3's to the ground capable. Supporting mods dependent of course.

Actually, we made 396 WHP with an out of the box Garrett GT2871R. The Garrett engineers were surprised, its not really rated for that kind of power at the wheels. ;) And actually, there is more power there. We have to try a couple of things that have come up recently.

That was with 100 octane, 26psi, built engine, and our FocusSport turbo kit on a drive-by-wire Focus with the factory ECU. Oh and internal wastegate for all you haters.
