GUDE Turbo Installed - Comments

I decided to go with the GUDE Turbo Kit instead of the Aerocharger. The install went nearly flawless. I purchased the Kit locally from a friend, but the pipes had been designed for an Automatic. But we got everything to fit just fine.

I can't begin to let everyone know how well this kit is, and how much I like it. I can't really step on it (I did once, and ran into some deto at 5500RPMS, 100octane race fuel).

So, I don't run it past 4K RPMS on 100oct. I plan on going with Toms fuel managment to solve the detonation. But this kit is flawless, and I can't understand why everyone gives it such a bad rep because ONE person threw a rod boosting way past what they should be running it at. I'm boosting 5lbs, with 100octane and I detonate at 5000-5500RPMS, so I can't taking this kit for a joy ride, boosting way paste that at 100MPH on the highway with 93octane. That's just asking for it...

Hell, I thought I blew a cylinder (I started burning up a load of fuel, and smoke start flowing out of my exaust), but it stopped. So I assume that deto threw some excess oal paste my cylinder rings and burned it up. No big deal, just don't plan on stepping on it again until it's tuned.

This kit puts down some scary power, and I recommend it to ANYONE. Despite GUDE's bad rep, and there customer support lacking very much, it's a very GOOD kit. And Phordman responded to my e-mails RIGHT AWAY when I told him, I didn't think it was going to fit since it was designed for an Automatic, but we got it to fit!

This thing has a very very nice "spool" feel and sound to it. It's crazy to see the people that turn there heads when I go by, and I don't even have a blow off valve on right now. I'm using the stock wastegate bypass, and it sounds badass when you go by. It's not that loud, and not that quiet either. It's a nice sounding, "vmmmmmmmmmvsh..vmmmmmmmmsh". It's very unique. I'm impressed!

Here are pictures of the install.

Ok...your deto-ing at 5500 RPM on 100 Octane Race gas??!!

There is either something seriously wrong or I dont know what the hell I am talking about!!

Anybody care to explain why its deto-ing on 100 octane?

Sorry, but that doesnt make any sense..unless your fuel management is all screwed up?

Those pics were kinda blurry but from what I can make out the Gude kit looks very nice. Gotta love that polished piping.

By the way, most people on here who knock Gude stuff dont have a problem with the quality of Gude products, the problem is with Gude's customer service (or lack thereof).

Edit to answer above question:
Hes deto'ing because he doesnt have any fuel management yet, not because its screwed up. I would expect deto even with race gas if the fuel setup is otherwise stock.

He is detoing because Octane is not the answer to everything. Maybe with 100 Octane and some Timing pulled he would not Deto, but with the stock fuel management, I would definetly expect some deto at higher RPM's!

It is DEFINETLY a good thing that you are not stupid enough to go joy riding while knowing the kit is not working 100%!

for you, and the kit looks great! Can't wait to see the results after you see Tom!

TD405H or whatever? I think I'm totally off with that, but it's the first gen eclipse turbo (I think?).

It looks pretty small, but spools up like mad.

There is no octane on earth that is going to let him run the 17+:1 A/F he is hitting at higher rpm.

Please get the fuel solution ASAP, I hate reading about rods leaving blocks.

For sure Chris, I'm going to have the fuel problem under control within the week. I don't care what it takes. I still have to pay for the Turbo Kit via credit, so I'm still in some debt. But I'm going to go in more for the fuel managment.

I'm trying to get Steeda to sponsor me, hopefully that will come through. Picking up some colder spark plugs later today to help with ANY deto.

I'll keep you all posted. It cost me $2300 w/ 4 42lb injectors (used, from a friend). No intercooler, runs like a champ. Man this thing pulled like NO OTHER until I hit detonation, then I'm like "AWWW YEAH!!!" "VRRRRMMMMSH (Detonation)", "OH SCREW THAT!" at 5500 RPMs, hehe. I can't wait to get this tuned and running 100%, oh boy.

So 2300, then 600 for Tom and friends to do their magic, then you'll have an almost complete kit for around 3g? Not too shabby.

I'll agree RoRos experience kind of tainted the flavor, but if Tom can make it right, it should rock.

Should one want to intercool it, that should be possible at a later time, no?

I'm just trying to plan my future...

Coming from you, now that's funny!

Supposedly the GUDE Kit maxes boost at 15psi (But I've heard otherwise from Cybernation Motorsports, some say the same model turbo WILL spool to 25psi), I don't know which is true or false, but most of it is speculation.

The turbo may be capable of spooling to 25psi but I highly doubt it will be able to force 25psi of air through your motor at 6000rpm.

I agree. They compared it to there Acura Integra's at the shop that run 12s and 10s. I didn't say the Focus could handle it, I just said the turbo itself would most likely handle 25psi worth of spooling.

Sigh... Ooops.

Gawdamn I'm bad with names. Still, Iceman, Sandman, both with 7000 posts... I don't know how long I've been confused.

Iceman: Sincere appologies. Didn't mean anything serious by it. I'll leave the embarrassing mess up to prove how stupid I am.

Sandmann: The **** You still stands.
