Hey guys have any of you had this problem? My passenger side floor board is just soaked. We had a pretty hard rain here on tuesday morning. Right after I bought the car it was leaking and i took it in and they said that they fixed it. I haven't checked it since so I dont know how long it has been doing it.

Anyone with the same problem?

I read in a previous thread that the problem is the window cowl is not flush against the windshield. Is that correct? Is it something that I can fix myself? My car is at the dealer right now and I can't check it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I was the one who made that post. I still insist that's the main problem with greg ZTS2's car and with High_Ram's car. Both of them had no problems until after a heavy rain. I had removed my cowl grille to put in a pollen filter, and had the same problem.

There's a seal between that grille and the windshield that's made of butyl rubber. It blocks rainwater from entering the air intake area, where it goes through the A/C condensor and ends up on your floor. Some of the seals were not done correctly, and when it rains hard, your car gets flooded.

I never went to the dealer with this problem, since mine was self-inflicted. But a roll of butyl rubber windshield sealer (sold at your neighborhood parts place) to replace the original seal does the trick.

This is not to say there isn't a flaw with the A/C compressor design, but condensation from the compressor doesn't fill your floorboard with an inch of water. The water had to come from somewhere.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">its not the compressor...but the housing. when the water leaks in it fills the evap coil housing and the drain clogs...then the problemm starts... didnt happen to me till 35982 miles...damn i was lucky

Is this leak under extended waranty and if so what mileage does it cover. I have this problem and my car was bought used at 85000kms and now has 101000kms. I am out of waranty and was wondering if Ford will or has fixed this problem out of waranty. This is the first time I noticed this problem as I usually keep car in the garage.

Any help please!

yea ive done a ton of those evap cases at work..man they suck..theres a seal on the back of the case for the evaporator core..well if ya dont run it on max ac it will just start condensating then boom big ass water leak..also there is a tsb on the right frt. cowl panel not sealing properly as well.that will cause water to leak down thru the cowl vent and onto the floor.

well... it could also be due to ICE issues... did anyone open your door panels and mess with the plastic sheet that keeps the rain water from running down the window, inside the door, and into the car (or if the plastic is intact, it just runs down the inside of the door on the plastic and goes back outide)....

The guys that installed my Dynamat screwed up the plastic in my doors and i had a flood as a result.... just another possibility.

I had this problem. The first dealer thought it was the AC drainage as in the service bulletin(I thought it was also). They spent a week breaking things in and around the dash and it did not solve the problem.

Second dealer fixed the window cowl in just a few minutes

So I'd start with the window cowl as it is quick and simple compared to AC work.

I had this problem and the dealer tried to tell me that it was condensation from the AC. After taking it several times they took it to a leak specialist and they found a small whole in the firewall. They said that it must have happened when the car was built. The leak specialist said that he has seen this happen on a few foci. They fixed it under warrenty and they had to replace all the carpet and floor mats in the car.

Good luck,
Mike

Sorry again I am asking what the "cowl" is? I am assuming it mates with window and simply putting some of that black silicon window sealent will work if that the "Cowl".

yeahhh, bumpage heheh.

can someone answer this please? cuz my passenger seat floor was flooded today, the poor WeatherTech mat did it's best but the carpet was still soaked with like 2 inches of water.

i am assuming this ISN'T the A/C problem cuz it rained a lot last night and i haven't run the A/C for a while. but anyways, are there any other threads on this? cuz i have no idea how to go about fixing this since i don't know what the cowl is or where it is. i did a few search queries and this is the only thread i could turn up on the subject, oddly enough.

ohhh ok there's this thread too, which helped a bit, so what is the wiper cowling, is that the hole that the wiper is mounted into?

if i wanted to fix this myself (not under warranty anymore) what am i looking at as far as costs for parts?

edit 2: after looking at this thread, is the cowling that black plastic piece that runs along the windshield, right where the wipers are mounted?

sometimes i forget to hit the Next button when searching, lol

I have the same problem.

First my dealer said that they were "aware" of a leak that occurs on the Focus on the passenger's side. They said that they were going to install a "cover" over the intake opening. I asked if this was a 'Ford part' and the dealer said: YES.

The dealers "fix" was to remove the passenger's cowl, remove the drain lip that is attached to the underside of the cowl and then take a piece of sheetmetal and basically 'cover' the fresh air intake opening. This was the "Ford part" that they used.

In the process they damaged all three cowling pieces - the driver's, passengers, and the lower which is the piece that both the driver's & passengers snaps into and the brake fluid reservoir, for example, is attached to.

Each of the four times that I experienced water on the passenger's side the a/c had been used on all four of those days, but on those four days, respectively, it had been raining or rained later in the day, was cool and relatively damp out. I assumed that it was an external water leak.

In one case, there was water running from under the dash and the blower motor, which indicated a leak from the cowl opening. This is possible because I had installed the cabin filter, used butyl caulking (which is what Ford recommends using, in the repair manual and it is like an asphalt or tar type caulking) that did not seal the cowl to the windshield properly.

The other three times I had the new cowling parts (that I installed, and not the dealer) and there was no leak from under the dash as described previously. Instead the water came in from around the drain through the firewall.

Another thing to be aware of is that under the rug there is the following and starting with the rug:
Rug
Felt insulation/padding
Neoprene padding where the floor meets the firewall
Styrofoam insert under the neoprene padding

The neoprene padding will take forever to dry out and be very careful when pulling the rug back after having removed the interior panels along the rug edge. The rug is attached and held in place to the car under the interior panel via a plastic 'clip' that is glued to the rug. If this 'clip' is removed from the rug there is no way to effectively reattach it and you risk having the rug pop out from under the interior panels when everything has been put back in place.

I don't know what else to suggest, because I have yet to take the car back to the dealer and deal with them.

The passenger's cowl is about $50.00 and comes complete with clips. If you buy the clips separate with the little white pins, you can only use the little white pins because the clip assembly is welded to the underside of the cowl. So unless you have a plastic welder and can save as much of the plastic from the cowl that is melted over the clip to keep it in place, replace the cowl. It will be quicker and easier to do so and while you're in there, replace the cabin filter.

Hope this helps.

I had that problem a month after I bought it, new too. At first they thought it was coming from the firewall where there is a place for an air filter but after taking it in a second time for the leak, they found out that the windshield didn't get sealed all the way. There was some sealant missing at the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side. Haven't had a problem since and it's been two years now.

my friend's SVT leaks (or did, ford said they fixed it) water onto the drivers side rear floor, and a little under the driver's seat.

ford said that the weatherstripping was compromised and replaced it. How can he get them to replace the carpeting too?
