Well its time for my first inspection since I installed the race header 2 years ago and Ive got everything loosened up, had to cut the studs at the flex flange which im going to pound out and replace with stainless bolts/nuts, but I cant get one of the head studs out. Its starting to round off and i dont want to finish it off...Ive soaked it in PB blaster like 4 times, its just rounding off. Is there some sort of kit i can buy to remove a stripped bolt? I dont wanna pay like $100 to have ford remove it.

Sears/Craftsman sells some forged tools that you can hammer onto the stripped bolt/nut then use a breaker bar to remove them. I think the tools are called "Boltout" or "Bolt Out".

I'm pretty sure you can find cheaper versions of the same thing that might work once or twice before becoming unuseable. Snap-On or MAC might also sell something equivalent that's of good quality.

See, its not like I wouldnt be able to turn it with a ratchet, its just a POS quality stud thats rounding off....Thanks Ford. I figured Sears would have something, anyone ever use one?

are these the ones u used.

ive never heard of vise grips slipping before. try getting two surfaces flat so it wont slip. or just go to autozone they sell some socket sets for rounded off studs:thumbup: just ask them, tell should they normally have them.

Ryan, get to your nearest Sears and pick up a Bolt-Out set. Depending on the size you'll need (you're good so I know you'll be able to tell from looking at the sets) you'll spend somewhere in the ballpark of 20 bucks, and they work amazingly well :)

If you didn't know, I worked at Sears in hardware and automotive for nearly 3 years ;)

Yeah those are exactly what I used, I even tried some needle nose ones that bit down on the flat sides of the stud as well, no go....I work in a collision shop so I'm good with tools but this damn thing has me stumped. I knew there was some sort of setup you could buy to remove stripped bolts but wasnt sure if there was a name for it or what works best etc. I dont usually deal with studs going into the head, just nuts/bolts I can cut to remove if needed.

Brian thanks man, I'll go tomorrow and see what I can find. I didn't wanna go there and walk in circles looking for something:lol:

thats what i meant they sell those at autozone as well or any other auto parts store. good luck:evilgrin:
The ones they sell at vatozone are crap that will break in the process of removing the stud if it works at all.

Craftsman tools > kunkoflex 2000 tools
