I hope this is in the right section, i'm panicing. I just filled my car up with gas today and on the way to get a bite to eat the fuel gauge went from Full to empty in 1 second and the check fuel light came on. I didn't drive but 16 miles on this one tank.. I turned the car on and off but that's it. Haven't taken any other steps to trouble shoot. Can anyone help (other than bring to dealer because i'll do that in the morning regardless).

Thanks

Re: Help!! Filled up, few minutes later fuel goes from Full to Empty and check fuel light

same thing was happing to mine you have to take it to the dealer and i think they put a whole new fuel "guage" in the tank

Common problem for the Focus. Dealer replaced fuel sender and the gage still won,t go to full. The important thing on your's. Do you have a fuel leak or smell gas? DON'T SMOKE!!

Sorry, got a little excited when I posted. No fuel fumes are being smelt. Besides which, I would believe that if I sprang a leak the fuel gauge would have gradually decreased rather than just plumitting to Empty like half the gas tank dissapeared.

I had this happens to me several months ago. Dealer replaced the fuel sender and all was normal. About 3 months after that incident, I filled up my tank and went back to the pump to get my debit card receipt and noticed that I was standing in a puddle of gas. Towed my car to the dealer and they replaced a corroded O-ring. All is fine now.

That happened 2 me 4 about a week. Then it fixed itself... wierd.

I think my car was playing mind games with me.

replaced my sender and it's not calibrated to go to F when completely full.

Don't overfill your car...

When that thing happend to my mom's Foci (1.6 Sedan ATX) The dealer said that if you frequently overfill, the fuel sensor in the tank (whatever it is called) may slip out of its place...So I never overfill...

Yeah same thing happened to my old Kona. Funny thing though, if I turned my sub up loud enough, the bass would bump it back up to full in a couple minutes.

Had the same thing happen just after I got it. They replaced the FSU and ... actually forget but I think that was it.

Hasn't happened again. Moving this over to the Problems forum. Thanks!
