It's pretty simple.

First you'll need to purchase the pins.

Next, you should inspect them and make sure they are going to be able to do the job.

After that, you need to gently (but firmly) place them in the round bin next to your desk. After a few days, they (along with the other unnecessary parts accumulated) should be placed in the bigger bin just outside your home/office. This is the most difficult. From here, it's easy...let the men with the big truck (they generally come once a week) remove said items from the larger of the two bins; if they come back it was meant to be. If not (and they won't), it may not have been right for you (and it probably isn't).

If this wasn't enough help, I'm sure someone will chime in with more thorough instructions. Hoped this helped, and good luck!

back on topic people. lol

you have to drill holes through the hood, mount the pins somewhere under the hood usually behind the grill on the metal between the headlights somewhere, make sure the pins line up with the holes u drilled, put the hood down, secure the pins with the locks. thats about all. Make sure your very careful about drilling. location and tools are VERY important here, you might [censored] up ur whole hood with one drill bit.

hood pins are a pita.

they are primarily used with fiberglass hoods for easy removal to gain acsess to all parts of the engine bay

and weight reduction

if you dont have them lined up perfectly your hood will be crooked.

and.. you get 1 chance to line it up cuz you have to drill holes into your hood

best way is to set up the pins in the engine bay where they need to be.. then mark the top with white-out and quickly lay the hood on top of the pins

lift up and look at the bottom of the hood.. hopefully the white-out left marks where you need to drill.

drill the holes and screw in or rivet the little round protector plates.

put the hood on and if your lucky.. the pins go into the holes

put in the pins and your done.

you have to adjust the pins height so it's a snug fit.. or the wind will get underneath and lift the hood.

you can use hood pins on a metal hood with hinges.. but why?

wow...if this isn't a thread full of useless moron posts i don't know which one is...

hey evan, perhaps u can delete those posts that of no absolute help.

however, abck on topic.

patxi, pretty much gave you the best way to install them.

use that method...and remember, measure twice + eleventybillion and drill once.

The hood latch on the VIS hoods are alittle weak, mine got damaged and as use continued the metal in the hood kept getting weaker so I cut it off and installed hood pins.

They are fairly simple to do....
I removed the plastic hood height adjustment knobs(?) from the radiator support, they just twist out as easy as can be.

The hood pins fit almost perfectly into the holes, then I tightened the pins in the radiator support. Next I put a drop of blue silicone on the tips of the pin and GENTLY lowered the hood. The silicone left two little blue spots on the bottom of the hood, this is where you will drill.

Drilling the holes is simple BUT painfull, cause if you screw up your hood will look like crap. After drilling the holes, close the hood to check how straight you drilled. You may have to open the hole up in one direction or another depending on how good your drilling was.

After getting the holed lined out, close the hood and ensure the pins are sticking through. Place the round metal pieces over the pins and align the screw holes where you want them, then drill them also but not too big, just big enough to get the screws in (VERY IMPORTANT on a fiber hood, if no starting holes the fiber WILL crack). Once the round pieces are installed adjst the hood pin height to desired level, close hood, insert keeper pins, step back and admire a well done job

how are those posts useless? we might be saving him from a big headache- a lot of people think they NEED to have hood pins with CF hoods, but certain hoods are just fine with the normal latch. hence my asking why he wanted them.

If it's a matter of safety then by all means install the pins. I have this VIS invader hood but the latch on it is flimsy at best and on a track day I'd rather be safe than sorry. Hence a set of ford racing hood pins purchased from Summit Racing. I removed my bumpstops and attached the posts there and then drilled through the hood. Just use some whiteout or something to mark where to drill and drill from the underside with some tape on top of the hood so your hole is clean. Go slow and be careful..shouldn't have a problem. I also use some Rustoleum from time to time because the steel has a tendecy to rust if left out to the elements for too long. Here's a pic as well if that helps.
