I dont really have the need for a buffer. So buying one is kinda useless for me. or even the PC.

But I have a few friends who need help getting swirl marks outta their paint, some pretty serious ones. If i wax them they get better but i know i need to polish them.

so how hard should i press when going by hand?

and someone said mequires ScratchX was the most aggressive hand stuff.

Why wouldnt i be able to use the #80 and #83 combo they were talkin about?
I will have an extra hand helping me out and i dont mind the extra effort to makin the paint look great agian.

I watched a clip from a detailing how-to video on line and the ScratchX section showed the person (Mike Phillips from MOL) using a LOT of pressure to remove the swirls (looked like he was basically pressing down on the applicator pad as hard as he could w/ his fingers). He also worked the product in straight lines, as opposed to a circular pattern. If you're working by hand, ScratchX is the way to go. #83 and #80 could be applied by hand, but they have been designed to work correctly w/ a machine (PC).

If they are somewhat deep surface scratches, a good compound/buff then a good polish should get them out. I don't use scratch X, but if you're doing it by hand, I would expect you would have to apply quite a bit of pressure to shave the clear down......

Taking a lot of scratches out of a whole car by hand is a big job!

# 80 ans #83 contain a special Diminishing Abrasives. That can only be broken down properly by machine.

And for ScratchX you do use a bit of pressure. you need to "work" the products until it breaks down in to a polish. I know Mike Phillips personally and he always says to "put some passion behind the pad."
