If You don't Like Seeing Damaged STs, Don't Look...

Well, on my way to work today, I saw two deer. One, I was able to avoid without incident. The other, not so much. He jumped over the wire guardrail you see you the left of the car. By the time I got to him, he was on the way down. Luckily, I drive quite slowly, and was only doing about 30MPH, so the damage is eh. Things would have been a lot worse if I drove like most kids my age, especially considering the gully to my left. I decided that hitting the fence would cause far less damage and possibly save my life than to let him tumble over the roof, as he was about 4ft off the ground...

Without further adieu (I'm sure some are happy to see....), the carnage....

The fender and bumper are far worse than they are in the pics, plus, the wheel is pointed about 1/2 turn to the LEFT in both pics.

Here's what myself and the guy at Walt's Country Motors in Colchester, CT could put together for a laundry list...

Cosmetic...
-Bumper Cover
-Fog light assembly
-Headlight
-2 new wheels
-All plastic shielding under the front and right side of the car from the front wheels forward
-Fender
-Side marker
-Hood
-Grille
-A/C condenser

Mechanical...
-Strut/spring
-Tie rod
-Lower control arm
- Ball joints
-Possibly a hub

Overall, we guess somewhere around $3000-$4000 of damage. Lucky we have a good insurance policy! It will even cover the cost of the aftermarket wheels and sticky tires.

Hahaha, I would, but that bumper alone would cost more than the suspension repairs:lol: I kinda prefer the stock bumper anyway, especially with my upcoming plans for it:evilgrin:
I would just get a check and then order everything from Steve @ tousley...
And pay $800 in shipping?:screwy:

Thanks for the idea though!
That SUCKS!
You got THAT right!:(

Will do. Thanks:cool:
You don't know much about shipping costs do you? :what:

I can ship an entire GT500 conversion including both bumpers, lighting and hood almost anywhere in the country for less than $150.00 as long as it goes to a commercial address.

No worries though, do whatever makes the most sense for you.

Please do feel free to check with me if you like though :D
I was going to call the shop today and give him your name/info, actually.
You always hit the animal. Never swerve to avoid.
Ummmm, I was NOT willing to have a deer land on my head. I know that rule, but when I have the choice of hitting a fence or having a dead deer crush in the top of my car, I will ALWAYS choose the fence.
If you dont get a SAP front I personally will slap you up side your head.
Hahahaha, to be honest, I sort of prefer the standard bumper over just an SAP front. :p

Wow. At least you're ok, your car isn't messed up too bad, and (im assuming) the deer lived. He better be counting his blessings come hunting season again. :) I don't hunt myself, but when stuff like this happens, it kinda makes me wanna give it a shot (pun intended).

Hopefully you get everything taken care of, and the body shop doesn't screw you around or anything.

I've seen first hand what a deer can do to a car, I'd have taken the fence as well.

BTW- Honestly, if the insurance company is paying the body shop directly you may as well let them order the parts wherever they usually get them because you'll only be saving the body shop money as they'll still bill the insurance company at list price.

If you're getting a check and would be paying for the parts yourself then it would probably make sense to get them here, do be sure to check with the shop though as not all of them will let you provide your own parts.

Got the quote yesterday... EVERYTHING in the front right suspension needs replacing, including the knuckle! The car is getting all OEM suspension parts and other things, the only aftermarket parts it will be getting are cosmetic. I'll post up the list later on. Pretty much the entire right side of the front end of the car will be getting replaced, including the right front door. The car is pretty badly damaged.:(

Are you fixing it yourself?

When my brother wrecked his car, the adjuster came out and listed a **** ton of parts that she says was broken but actually were not.

Have a check cut to yourself, assess whats really broken, get the parts cheap from Steve, throw it together, and pocket extra $ (over half of the money from the check will probably be to labor costs) :D

Sry to see your car damaged ... that sucks.

Time to upgrade to a nasty whine eminating from under the hood ... that will chase all the animals off the road in front of you. lol

But seriously, ever since I installed the supercharger, animals seem to run away from the car. Which is great - I don't want to hit them ...

Good luck with the repairs.

Buddy of mine put in deer whistles and had an accident less than a week later, deer walked out right infront of him at night.

If your dealer is at all helpful get on the horn to Steve and check prices with him then go in and check what they are going to charge.

I had to have the front bumper replaced on my car a few years ago, I checked with Steve and it ended up that an SVT bumper was cheaper(even with shipping) from him than the stock ZX3 bumper was going to be from the dealer. So I ordered the parts from Steve took them to the dealer and they wrote me a check for what the stock stuff was going to cost.
Ended up in the positive a little.

If you have the ability to do some of the stuff yourself do it, you might as well get some cash out of it if you can.

Car's all fixed up and sittign in the driveway. Pics soon for anyone who cares once I tint the nes side marker and get the car detailed. The shop did a BEAUTIFUL job fixing the car, I just wish they had cleaned it a bit better. Then again, they finished it and pulled it out into the lot as we pulled up.
