Jiffy Lube just FUBARed my GF\'s car
I have another oil change horror story for all you guys.
A month and a half ago my girlfriend goes to Jiffy Lube to get the oil changed in her 88 Accord. A week later she brings it back and tells them it is leaking oil. They tell her the threads on the drain plug are bad and it apparently messed up the threads on the oil pan. They tell her they put in a longer drain plug and say that it is only a temporary fix but it should get her to the next oil change. Middle of last week her oil light comes on and Monday afternoon while she is on her way to work the car starts making horrible clicking sounds and then just dies. I go to pick her up after work and her battery is dead (completely unrelated I think) and doesn't want to be jumped so I go get a new battery. I start the car up and this sound coming from the engine bay is just horrible. I shut off the car and check the oil. Dipstick has nothing on it. I think great, the engine is dead (I know this because I have seen and heard first-hand what happens when a car runs with no oil). I put three quarts of oil in so we could drive it home. Yesterday we brought it to a mechanic and when he called me back he said the engine is dead and Jiffy Lube put in the WRONG DRAIN PLUG . He said they put it on the lift and could see a steady drip of oil s they promptly put it right back down onto the ground.
Saturday morning I am planning to go to Jiffy Lube with a private party value from KBB, a report form the mechanic that says the wrong drain plug is there, and hopefully an estimate from another mechanic for the cost to replace the engine. I will talk to the manager (I know he is there at 8am) and see what they are going ot do to make this right. hopefully we won't have to take anything to court but I will if they make me.
You guys have any more advice or other info I should take with me tomorrow?
