LA 2010: Ford Focus Race Car Concept goes global

Ford Focus Race Car Concept

Ford likes to tout the 2012 Focus' global credentials, because this is the first time the compact sedan and hatchback will be offered with minimal changes in nearly every market the Blue Oval operates. Interestingly, the Ford has taken a similar approach with the racing version of the Focus, which it says is designed to compete in all kinds of rally racing both in the United States and throughout the rest of the world.

Power, predictably, will come from a tuned version of the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that we'll see in the upcoming Focus ST. You'll find AST performance coil-over adjustable dampers at each corner holding up anthracite 18-inch wheels and Hoosier race tires. Other suspension bits include sway bars from Ford Racing with adjustable end links and front brakes with 320-millimeter two-piece rotors and race pads.

Inside, a full FIA-certified roll cage is included, along with Recaro seats with six-point racing harnesses and a full electronics package for keeping track of essential data. Interestingly, Ford says it teamed up with a number of professional private racing teams to develop its Focus Race package, which means it should be highly adaptable to multiple series and formats.

FSWerks Ford FocusThis car's first appearance in competition will be at the 2011 British Touring Car Championship, but it will also circle tracks in China and at the 24-hour race at NĂĽrburgring in Germany. Even more importantly, Ford says the upcoming 2012 Focus ST will benefit from the experience gained by racing its track-developed sibling.

In addition to the Focus Race Car Concept, also hitting the LA Auto Show floor will be three Focus models tuned with various aftermarket products. One will come from Ford's own Vehicle Personalization group while the others will be presented by FSWerks and 3dCarbon, respectively.

I don't understand this line. first you say this then Ron says Capaldi is building it and I don't see an FSWerks sticker on the car in those pictures.

Help the confused please.

It's a mistake due to the copy and pasting from the original website.

If you follow the link, there is a picture next to that particular paragraph, the picture is of the gold FSWerks car. If you then highlight all of the text, you will see that doing so also hilghlights said picture. Paste all of that without proofreading it completely and you end up with a sentence like we have above.

Capaldi Racing was involved from the start on this project, and all the guys here were happy to take part in the next gen Focus build. This was part of the lack of input here on the boards, very, very, very busy and sworn to secrecy! I will try to post some build progress pictures later today.

It'd be nice for Ford to offer the whole package at Ford Racing dealers. The same way they did with the FR-500 Mustangs.

I think it is time to sell the current Focus Race Car in Germany and start looking at buying one of these.

awesome looks great ! only complaint is the poor font choice for "Focus" on the window banner even though it might be the logo on the back badge

Seeing this and the other Focus concepts makes me super excited about the aftermarket for this new car. I hope this catches on like the FR500 or the new boss 302 mustangs. This car would be a great fit in Grand Am ST (lol) of World Challenge TC. I want one MEOW!!!:lol::party::banana::rock::hump::wub:
