Found these linked from another forum. I hope they aren't old news since I don't catch every post that comes through here:

That last pic is pretty damn sad if you ask me.

Those pics are hosted at Imagestation, so you can add '.orig.jpg' to the end of the URL on each of those photos to see the larger version if you'd like.

Two people have already made animated versions for your viewing pleasure as well.

An M3 got into an accident with my friend just the other day.

He drives a flatbed tow truck and was making a left off of a four lane two way main ave. The driver of the M3 was doing at least 50 and wanted to beat the light, so he swerved into the right lane, and right under the truck.

He spun the truck and crushed the roof. (less than 1000 miles on the car) I'll see if I can get pics of both the truck and the M3.

Geez that had to be one terrifying moment for him

I am also glad to see that he made it out ok.

Apparently he lost a some speed before he went over. One flip isn't so bad. The car absorbs the energy just like it's supposed to and it ends up looking like it does. Had he gone over hard agian the car would likely have been smashed flat. I'm sure he feels like [censored] but at least he gets to tell stories about it instead of the story being in his eulogy. Sometimes cars die so that people live. It's a noble thing.
I'm so not showing this to my wife. She really wants an E36 M3 and she doesn't want me to open track the Focus. This sequence of pictures is her worst nightmare.

I was at that track day:

I was on the track, doing a session at the time that happened, but luckily a half a lap away.

If the car would have rolled on the drivers side, the driver would have broken his neck for sure.

I have some track experience, I really wanted a roll cage in my car after witnessing this accident out on track.

This was Gingerman, (michigan) I was the only Focus out there that day; the rollover happened between turns 8 and 9 if I am correct.

In my car with r-compounds, I am traveling at 72 m.p.h. in 3 rd gear @ 6200r.p.m., with 90% throttle steady. There are two sweeping corners, one to the right, followed by one to the left, off-camber on the left sweeper, and slightly downhill.

This happened in the mid afternoon, we were on our 5th or 6th 20 minute lapping session, I packed up after this happened.

It could have been me or anyone, there were almost 20 cars out on that track at that time, I was in the back of a 7 car parade, I feel the track officials should have been more aggressive. (a slow car was not allowing faster cars to pass) I started to make mental/physical errors at that time too, in fact, I missed a gear, and went off course at the same time the M3 rolled, ironic, because I had been held up by another M3 for about 3 laps....

if the guy hadn't walked away from that, BMW would have some serious problems. all cars should protect in a simple rollover like that.

Dood, I've been in that exact same position.

It was a sunny day in March of 2000. I was returning from Denver after 6 of the worst months I've ever had.

I was less than 80 miles from my parent's house when the U-Haul trailer's hitch disconnected from the ball and flipped six times, spewing everything I owned and held dear out on the freeway. Comic collection, Star Wars collection, TV + VCR DVD player, bed, dishes, all my CDs and DVDs.

Semi's and cars flattening them all in mere seconds.

And I sat there next to the steaming heap of wreckage, much like the guy in that pic above, completely devistated.

Turns out the U-Haul guy who hooked up the trailer forgot to screw the tensioner down, but I could never prove it. My car got bent a little, but because it was a 1969 Ford Fairlane it stayed on the road and never flipped... it saved my life. So I owe Ford my life.

I never wish that on any of you. It really messes you up.

First - I am glad he lived to tell about it. He could have died in a wreck like that.

Second - for those of you contemplating taking your car to a track to test or try it out remember that this sequence could happen to you and your car and that is an implied risk so choose carefully.

On top of that, your insurance will NOT cover the car if you are racing the car.....even on a track. Insurance won't even cover it if you are autocrossing.

A lot of track events get around the insurance problem by calling the event a driving school. I know as I have participated in many myself. You just have to verify ahead of time that you are covered while at the school even when your vehicle is on the track. So long as there is no official timing involved, it's normally not an issue.
