So I like my FSVT but does anyone here think Id be an idiot for wanting to get a silver Mercury Marauder? Im just not a Mustang kind of guy, Lightnings only hold 2 people, and well I like the mafia coolness of it. Besides it would look pretty darn nice painted Sonic Blue dont you think?

#2 ·
I thought they only came in black? Personally, I can't imagine buying one in any other color. There's just too much of them to paint it Sonic Blue, even though I love that color.

I knew they came in black and silver but wasn't there a dark blue one as well? My neighbor has one and its such a nice car, I would definately go for one, they are really nice cars.

I'm not sure, but I dont think it was a dark blue...there was definitely SOME kind of blue, but I never saw one in person that wasnt black.

Black would be my first choice, or maybe some kind of really dark grey. :sexy:

CV Sport is at the top of my list. They've got all the P71 goodies, new rear suspension, the new heads, dual exhaust...

Black only the first year, then they started making Silver, Midnight Blue, and Dark Maroon ones as well. Here is a picture of my dad's silver 2003:

They are definitely fun cars. LSD, high-stall-speed torque converter, and one mean sounding growl when you stomp it. Not the fastest car, but it'll put you back in your seat. My dad is currently considering the Kenny Brown treatment now that he's out of warranty, and in conjunction with a slightly shorter final drive, should be a recipe for

Ford kept it out of gas guzzler territory by giving it a too-tall final drive. Change that out and that mother should have some moves, especially considering that they are going pretty cheap.

And shoot, that engine bay's got enough room for the Triton V-10, just in case 300hp doesn't quite cut it.

I've ridden in one with the works, gears, transmission, suspension, WHIPPLE-CHARGER, built 5.0L CAMMER, putting out a weasily 550hp and 500+lb-ft of torque with 3.55 gearing to match! It was a hoot beating some major cars and looking like a police cruiser to boot! It was mega fun!

so you're saying that the one you rode in had an entirely different motor? Not a mod motor? I don't know why anyone would go to all that trouble when you can get pretty close to those numbers with an intercooled Vortech.

yeh im not gonna bug my dad into buying parts for it because he hates the thing in the rain and snow...ha i was definitly lighting up the tires in the rain today
Image

but i am currently pursuading him to get a used explorer for his daily driver and a 05 Mustang GT...went to drop my car off today and i couldn't pry him from every GT window sticker

Driven the Marauder once, and its essentially the FoMoCo equiv. of the Impala SS (get to take it out all the time). Both cop-car lookin power sedans with a little more top end on the Marauder and more low-end grunt on the SS.

But then compare it to one of the new Chryslers... pwnage! And thats excluding the SRT trims.
Image
They have stability control standard on em' too, which can be helpful when you really want to push these super heavy beasts hehe (spun the SS twice already at lower speeds... didn't hit anything though luckily.... shhh heheh)! Multi-displacement and other modern features too, although interiors are still kinda... ehhh...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doggin it, but I like the 300c'ish platform better (mag, C, charger). Only sucky thing about the Chrysler is the placement of the stick and dinky dinky wheels/tires... but the latter is easy to fix.

No it was a Powerhead built 5.0L cammer motor. 5.0L Windsor motors won't fit so well, they are too tall in the intake.

And no, you can't get those number with just a intercooler vortech. You need two things, big PSI and a built motor, you need something like 14+ psi. And even then you won't get 500+lb-ft of torque. 4.6L cammer can't handle that much boost, the pistons and the rods just aren't strong enough. At about 10psi they really start breaking things. I've seen WAY too many blocks with rods thrown right through the side as well as shattered pistons. It doesn't mean you can see one with 10psi, it means it is living on borrowed time with 10psi. The Cobra motor on the other hand is VERY, VERY tough.
Good luck

Here are the specs for the Marauder S, with 7psi of intercooled boost. This is what I would call close (I suppose it is around 100hp less and 50 or so ft-lbs. less, but still nothing to sneeze at).

Base Price, USD: 51,295
Engine Type: dohc supercharged V8
Powertrain Layout: front engine/rwd Displacement, cc: 4601
Horsepower@rpm: 450@6200* Torque lb-ft@rpm: 460@4800
Curb Weight, lb: 4331
0-60 mph, sec: 4.5
0-100 mph, sec: 11.3
1/4 mile, sec@mph: 13.1@108
70-0 mph, ft: 171
Top Speed, mph: -

* Kenny Brown's estimate ranges between 450-475hp, Car & Driver says 460. Take your pick.

Oh, and the Marauder motor is the (pre-boost era) Cobra motor (don't know for sure what was changed when they added boost, you might), with different cams.

#20 ·
The 4.6L dual cam Marauder motor is completely different motor than the Cobra motor. Crank is different, rods, pistons, heads all different as well as the cobra has a "slightly" thicker block. It was MADE to take boost. You can make the regular 4.6l blocks take the boost, pretty much you just need rods and pistons, it doesn't hurt to have ported heads too. Anyways 475 motor hp is not 550rwhp, not by a longshot.

It's kinda odd, but we now have three Mercury Mauraders in SVTOA-Toronto. Two of them are black, and the other is that "blue" (here it is at St. Thomas):

Oh, and this one our member brought up from Trilogy Motorsports in Michigan:

The Mercury Marauder is a Crown Vic. However, the Mercury name carries with it a higher level of standard luxury, and a higher price tag. The cops don't need leather seats, so they get the Ford version instead of its Mercury clone. A Police Interceptor (the real name for the cop-package Crown Victoria) will perform to about the same standard as a Marauder, it just won't look as cool.

The Impala has a V6, not the LS1.

The P71 used the 4.6L modular V8, but produced only 235 hp, albeit with 275 lb-ft of torque. That number is easily upgradeable, since it can accept a lot of Mustang parts. Also, the Police Interceptor has a lot of upgraded parts (radiator, brakes, stronger frame) that weren't even optional on the Merc.
