My 1/4 mile times

I just came back from the track, (my first time in any car), I started with a 17.42 at 80.38 mph and ended with a 16.77 at 80.42 . My mods are on my signature. I think I did alright. MY reaction times suck, more than a sec. in both. And my 60ft. mph where 64.32 and 65.35. So can I expect a better time with those mods. or should I wait for my next mods. a throttle and a race header and cam gears.

Gracias in advanced.

Miguel

it just depends...some people get beasts out of the factory and some get slugs. but to answer your question, yes i feel like you could shave a few 10ths off of that time.

How are you launching? do you slip or dump the clutch? and from what RPM?

Were you running on stock wheels/tires??? If so, next time, try running them at 20-21 psi. I launch at around 3k and it works pretty well. Also, when are you shifting?

I was rev. at 3,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. What I think was the worst thing was my mph only 80 mph.

The thing is I felt the car was going to be better.

I'm running marshall racer 2 tires at 25psi.

With the mods I have I expected more mph, or so I thought. I'm beating technicas easily, and gs integras and moded cx civis, and moded echo, which are really impressive for such a cheap car. And in the track I beat a gst Celica. So what I'm I doing wrong.

first time i ran in my 5 speed zx3 i ran a 16.3 with cai and can muffler only plus tools and stuff in the back just make sure you dont hit the rev limiter it will kill you and try launching a bit lower if your wheels are spinning to much

It sounds like you have a pretty decent setup goig, it's just your driving skills that need to be improved. Your reaction time off the light is way to high, so that is first thing you need to work on. My ZX3 ran a 16.48@86.1 bone stock with 17" Enekis on her. It was my first time racing, and I was only able to catch a .82 on the light, when a .5 is a perfect launch. I dump the clutch from around 2500 to minimize wheel spin/hop, and shift @ 5500. From your post it seems you are shifting a little too low in the powerband(4000 rpm?). It shoulds like your car has the potential to run in the low 16's or high high 15's., so just work on your driving, and have fun!

Just some more info on the Celicas GT-S...

At my local track I met 3 owners of GT-S Celicas and they were all modded. One of them had a Injen Intake, TRD exhaust, and CF hood. The other two had similar power upgrades but can't remeber the brands. The other two had Aftermarket wheels also. But anyways, they said the cars are quick, but not as they thought it would be. The Guy with the CF hood ran a best of (out of four runs that I saw) 15.68@90mph while the other guys where running low 16's. I watched carefully, and can tell you that they had both a good launch and shifting. Except when thay ran like 16.6&16.9

I have raced only one GT-S (stock, but so is mine) with my GTI 1.8T, and beat it by about 2 car lenghts at some 80mph.

Makes you wonder...

I'm no expert, but could the fact that the Celica's are slow have something to do with the fact that it's a 6-speed, so there's an extra shift in there somewhere?

my girlfriend has a celica GTS, but it's an automatic and I HATE the thing. don't get me wrong, it handles like it's on rails, but I despise those high-reving rice-racer engines. If you're just driving around town, trying to get to work, or wherever like any normal person, you might as well be driving a geo metro for all the power they have. You gotta race those damn things up to at LEAST 5k before they have any powre at all.. I MUCH prefer my ZX3 to those Celicas, even with a 50hp difference...

first new gts where fast but toyota hoed out the new ones with lower redlines and wider shift gates to prevent the rash of misshifts that people with the first ones got..

they are basically trying to save the car from dumb drivers but sacrificing performance..that engine makes power way up in rpms and they are cutting it short.. ONE LESS CAR THAT CAN BEAT MY FOCI!!

I was running in the Carolina race track which for me is a little bit slippery. It was cool out, like at 75 - 80 degrees and I reved my car all the way to 6,600 or so revs. My biggest problem was the wheel spin.

Thanks for all of your replies. I plan to get a phantom grip, a race header, a throttle and a couple of more things, next time out. I plan to run N/A because that's the way the car came from the factory.

Thanks again,

Miguel

Seeing how you just said somthing about tire spin that might be why you could stand to pick up a few tenths. What was your 60 foot E.T?? It should be the next number down on your timeslip after your reaction time (R.T). It should be somewhere in the 2.xxx range, with a manual trans I think a good one would be between around 2.2xx.

My best 60ft time was 2.42.

1,100 ft altitude at the tracks crown.
Not enough to make more than 1/10ths difference.
I usually experience times 5/100ths slower at Commerce, no more, no less.

You could probally knock another 2-3 tenths off that 60 foot e.t.Usually a good guideline is for every tenth you take off in 60 foot its about 2 tenths in the 1/4 give or take a few.

I just looked at your mph and it seems kinda low, did you maybe let off the gas before the actual finish line?? Sometimes it can be confusing cause there are 2 sets of cones at the end of the track and sometimes people think the first set is the finish line where it actually is the second set.

I think what my problem was that I may have shifted to second to early and wheels may have been still spinning.

I put this thread on this forum because I was concern for the low milage, high times for all the mods that I have. I've seen people with less mods. and they posted better times.

By what I'm seing my problem is not my car. Is just that I suck as a driver.

Thanks for the input my friends.
