So, I let my brother borrow my car for 2 hours and this is what he did!!

He was taking a turn at like 40 and took too narrow of a line, went into understeer and slammed into the curb

!! I just got the word that it is officially totalled!

This is where the curb first hit, so it slammed the wheel into the fender.

He took a nice chunk out of the tire, while bending my wheel!

The airbags smashed the front windshield.

...and the interior

Here is one of the bent control arms:

Here is the axel chillin on the ground:

The driver wheel was smashed back as well.

My brother stripped the car of my aftermarket stuff yesterday, luckily he didn't ruin any of it except the wheel and possibly the front struts although the tech said he doesn't think so.

Now I don't know what car I want. It will happen next summer as now I am @ school so no use now. I am deciding betweena GC8 Impreza 2.5 RS (97-00), 01-03 WRX, or SVT Focus. Anyone have any opinions on these cars?

looks almost exactly the same as what happned when i hit a rock enbankment going about 35. (totaled)

heres a pic of djkuruption's ride after slaming a curb.(not totaled)

i thing this might be something that ford has to look into. i know that we shouldnt be slaming our cars into things but maybe some stronger suspension parts would keep so many foci from ending up in salvage yards after being totaled out by insurance companies.

i hope your brother is ok. is your insurance gonna cover it even though you werent driving??

I've hit curbs like that twice, and neither time was it totaled , though it was about 5 or 6k dollars worth of damage both times. The first time I lucked out (when it was the driver's side) and the airbags didn't deploy. The second time was the passenger side that hit first, and I ended up completely on the sidewalk. My airbags went off, windshield cracked because of it, and I managed to damage all 4 wheels in addition to a lot of other damage (my oilpan actually smacked the curb). Sorry to hear about your situation.

Sorry to hear about your car man. That sucks. I know all about totaled Foci. My girlfriend slammed my first one into a car carrier on the highway at 60 MPH. It was at a deadstop. But anyway, I dont know your opinion on a SRT-4, but I had the oppurtunity to drive one the other day, and it kills a WRX and will certainly kill a SVTF. And they are a good price too.

See my crash was a little different. it wasn't a curb but an air compressor/trailer. It JUST got the corner of my car missing the bumper but getting the bumper cover, headlight, hood, and fender, and blew the bags and THEN it did all the same suspension damage your car had. The funny thing was my car wasn't totaled, but had over $10,000 in damage. I got a check from insurance company for $9,300 and still had the car. I just sold the old one and bought a new one.

The problem with the focus is it has a fairly complex suspension, especially for this $ car. The focus is just SO complex and hard to fix and the price of parts are relatively $ for an "American" car it's often better just to get a new one than to try and fix it.

I seriously think I would cry,
I would go past the point of anger and kill your brother.
But look at it this way, nobody got hurt, and you get to pick up a new ride.
Thats always fun,
I personally would go with the wrx.

Oh damn! I thought I was in a minority of people who actually destroyed my sub frame and either bent or broke my front axles.

I did it two years ago and the car is still not right, I wish they had totalled it

I did mine the same way your brother did it, I came around a corner at 35mph and got lots of under steer and then it all of the sudden gave me a lot of over steer. Next thing I knew I was in the curb.

do not get a 2.5RS...that's all i have to say...the engine..well are crap. They are the orignal 2.3 they used to have in suburu's but they bored it over to a 2.5. You don't want to FI it cuz the walls of the block are too small and will send the pistons right thru the wall. Plus the engines aren't made to put that much more power thru them. I saw go with the svt

Hey. I have to say this is a big thread for someone crashing a car...But it looks like this has happaned to a lot of people. My car was only worth like $6k so that is why it was totalled. I am leaning towards the SVT, although a WRX is still very tempting! I never thought anyone could have such a hard time deciding between a focus and a WRX, but I loved my focus ssoo much!! Good news though, my wheel was fixable, and my struts were not hurt!! YESS!! So the SVT is sounding better and better. What from my list of mods will not fit on an SVT?

Black '00 ZX3
BOMZ cold-air , AEM Exhaust, OBX Front Strut Bar, Custom Short Shifter, A/FX UDP, Focus Central TB, KW V1 coilovers, 17" 5zigen super-6, FS rear strut bar, Eibach F/R anti-sway bars.

man that really sucks bolas.

sorry to hear that... now it's SVT time!!

The AEM exhaust will not fit. The SVT has a different exhaust route if I'm not mistaken. Im not too sure if the Focus Central TB would be any difference either, as the SVTF has a 65mm throttle body. But I woudl change it out if you already have it..

peace

Why not the AFX UDP?
