I recall when he first dropped away from driving to pursue treatment.
After some time, treatment appeared to be successful and he returned to the track to watch his son.
I thought he was going to be OK... This is Shocking and Sad news.
RIP, and best Wishes for his Family.

That's terrible news. I had hoped he would pull through.

I was at the Phoenix race in 96 (I think) when he won in the 43 car for Petty. It was a big day.

RIP

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hamilton family.

I always liked watching Bobby, Sr. race, especially when he won the Truck Series championship in 2004.

I just hope his boy, Bobby, Jr. can go out and run good, and make his dad proud knowing that dad will be watching him from up above alongside some of the all-time greats in NASCAR history. The likes of Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Tim Richmond, and Lee Petty.

RIP Bobby Hamilton, Sr.

If you weren't close to him, the best way to get to know WHY people care would be watching the Documentary about him on SPEED TV.
He only had 4 Cup Wins, but he DID win a Truck Championship.
Some may say that doesn't sound like much, but his Life Story is Truly Amazing and Touches the Heart.

Unfortunately I don't think his teams will make it without him there. Bobby Jr was never a sponsor favorite. Too shy and too set in HIS ways to do appearances.

Bobby Sr struggled last year with both sponsorship and money to compete.
