Hello...

So, did the mtx swap on my zetec. I was told everything came out of a working car, 02.5+. I took it apart and installed a Torsen.

get it in my car, and its not going into gear.

pull the cables off, and I can find all gears, 1-2-3-4-5-r.

put the cables back on, adjust them, and in the various range of adjustment, I can get 2 and 4 or 4 and R or 3 and 5.... but never all 6 gears.

There are 2 major problems.

1. The black counterweight is contacting the upper transmission mount. Due to this, (with the cables off, shifting by hand on the trans itself) it is barely shifting into first, and it hits the mount when going into 3 and 5.

2. The black counterweight is contacting the shifter cable that connects to it when going for 2-4-R. No matter what we do we cannot get 2-4-R.

HELP!!! :bang:

there is a problem with the transmission, the selector should NOT swing feely 30-40 degrees in neutral without going into a gate.

I went to a junkyard and played with another trans...

so, I am in the market for a 02.5-04 zetec mtx75

thanks for your help

when/if you tear it apart, check the pin that holds the whole assembly together. I had something similar happen, and the pin that holds the shifter tower assembly together broke into a million peices, so that the forks and the part that connects to the cables could move independently.

dude, before you get all crazy. put the trans in neutral and take the selector mechanism off the transmission. there are like 7 bolts that hold it on. the selector will come out with all the dogs that move the forks. If you look at it, its a common failure to have the upper portion of the selectortwist on the shaft and eventually break off. People have tried having it welded with limited success. The part can be bought from ford for about 200 bucks. What you are describing sounds exactly like it.

Crazy? I dont see whats so crazy about splitting the case. I have to do it anyway to swap the Torsen into my new trans.

I saw your other post on that and that was another thing I was going to check.

I just dont have the time and resources to try and figure out what it is while its in the car, try and fix it, and possibly be wrong. My car is 40 miles away from home, and I have no way of getting to and fro. So I bought another trans to swap in. If I play my cards right I can get all of what i spent on it back when I sell this one after I fix it.

Also, if it is in fact put together incorrectly, I want to be able to take pictures of it before I take the selector out.
