are you drilling the button???cause if you've drilled the lock and turned the wheel and its just not sliding out like it should, ie. just kinda stuck, but the button is pushed there is another way.

I had this problem two weeks ago. Two words...Slide Hammer. I know its not the most graceful way to do things but a bunch of little taps and 45 seconds later the thing slid right out.
I'm not drilling the button bc I can't access it. I have not drilled anything yet...tried to drill the face but the drill/bit is not powerful enough.

Can anyone confirm that this Slide Hammer is a good idea for my situation which does not involve the key not turning to the on position but the opposite of not turning to the off position?

Hm.....yes, it does show button on the side, but I certainly seem to remember it being underneath. Maybe my memory is not soo good...lol.

anyone else remember where it is exactly...or if there are different types?

If not, I might go take mine apart tomorrow for you, and get pics. Only a couple of screws really.

as far as your drill bit, start small use a smaller bit to drill a pilot hole. gradually step it up to half inch to get the locking dog out. if your drill isn't powerfull enough. use a pnumatic drill. thats what i did. and if you can get the thing to start to move but not slide out easily, than you have pused the button, the cylinder is just jammed in. THe only thing you have to be very careful of is not damaging the aluminum housing around the cylinder.

My Focus01 ignition sudden locked up and the key wouldn’t turn.
I absolutely can't turn it.
I have to drill Ignition Cylinder out.
Probably I drill 3/8 hole a little bit deeper (about 1 ½ inches) but I still cannot turn the cylinder to the "on" position.
So, I still cannot push in the release pin for the cylinder slides right out.
Please help!
Can someone please try to explain me how you to engage that release pin?
Thanks.

drill to the same depth with a 1/2 inch and fish out the little bar...its about an 1/8" thick and .5" long and 1/4" wide. it will allow the tumblers to fall then you can use a screw driver to turn the cylinder. make sure your steering column isn't locked if so you'll have to turn it left while turning the key/screwdriver...good luck.

Hello My key would not turn at all about 4 months ago. I though i had fixed it by blowing compressed air into it and some gigaloo in. it worked for some time but the problem came back a few time but yesterday that was it it would not turn at all. Now i was I managed to get the key to turn by banging it a few time then i was able to remove the cylinder as per instruction and photos i found on this site :). but once out of the steering system it seams the key can turn the cylinder without any issues. Could my problem be diffrent the worn out thumbler?

nope...the cylinder will turn fine once it's out of the column.

Use the hammer! I gotta tell you my friends, that I thought my ignition cylinder seized up for good. I went from sticking anything I could find into the cylinder thinking that it was the gears that were stuck. next thing I knew, one of my mini screwdrivers broke off inside. great job. I tried jamming the key inside, pulled it out and realized i could see the screwdriver piece, I grabbed my needlenose and pulled out it (by the grace of God himself). from there on out I thought for sure that the gears were shot. I read on here that hitting it helped, so I was giving it a pretty good whack, but it was to no avail. Finally, I got fed up and took a hammer to it and just clocked the key, and it turned. great job. just be careful not to break the key, i missed once and gave the key a little lean to it.

Now go to your local ford dealership and get a cylinder made...DON'T TURN THE IGNITION ALL THE WAY OFF, AND DON'T TAKE THE KEY OUT!!!!!!

Glad it worked out for you.

Big props to you and Steve....I had an idea of what to do but between you and Steve it was no trouble :)

And thanks to Steve for the super quick service on the cylinder, had it in less than 24 hours (overnight shipping FTW). And even with overnight shipping it came out about 20 bucks less than the local dealership was going to charge for just the cylinder (and I would've had to take it to a locksmith to get coded)

Good man, I'm glad it helped.

Justin, this was great help to me too.

My lock did it yesterday with no warning at all.

I got a cylinder today, and for $25 it's getting keyed tomorrow.

Good Hale, I'm glad it helped. I should win some kind of award for writing this helpful thread. :D

I could actually write a "how to" on everything to do with a Focus, seeing how I had pretty much every problem possible with my ZX3.

Yes Sir I did. That's a whole other story. I'll PM you, but I did it when I lived in San Diego, in the apartment parking lot, and I'm pretty sure I suffered 4th degree chemical burns on my hand and arm from having it down in the gas for hours trying to cut those damn clips.
