The story:

Was driving to work. Around 11:45 pm @ approx. 45 mph, speed limit is 50.. Driving down a stretch of road (Rt 125, Andover for any locals). Road is pitchblack. All of a sudden a small animal (racoon, cat, i dunno) runs out from side of road, and slows almost to a stop in front of me. I try to avoid it, cut the wheel too hard.

ya i have had to offer up a sacrifice a few times to save the life of my car.
You cant drive to work on a squirrel, i have always said that.

I will do my best to avoid animals, however i will not, not endanger my life to save a tree rat, serves the little bast@#%$ right for not using the crosswalk anyway.

this one time i had a raccoon commit suicide well attempted suicide i only winged it, so i turned around to make sure it was no longer with us, turns out the poor thing was hanging in there, so i drove over it.... again to help it finish what it started. I say it because i couldnt be sure of gender at the time i didnt take a look at the lower portion of squished raccoon, probably wouldnt have been able to tell anyway, and i didnt consider that years later i would write a post on the internet describing the incident, not taking into account the ramifications of not noticing the gender of the suicidal raccoon to demean its existince to a simple it.
so i think for the rest of my life i will recall him as Spot. or

WOW you know I always hear people say not to try to avoid hitting animals, it's not an easy thing to do really but in that splint second when they jump out say to your self "can I make it over that animal?" and if the answer is yes....FLOOR IT!

At least your didn't get hurt, or did I miss that part?

**** every animal who ever crossed the road. ****ing run the mother****ers over, just to spite them. Heck, I swerve just so I can hit squirrels. I hate the ****ing bastards. Next time, run the damn thing over, unless of course the '**** offers to pay for your damages.

However, kudos to you for having a heart and trying not to hit it, unlike my sick minded self. hahahaha. Guess it was my upbringing in the country out in 'Bama as a young boy.

Sorry about your car bro, any idea how bad the estimate for repair is?

No word on the estimate yet. The body shop said it is borderline totalled. Its up to the insurance company, and how much they say its worth.

The rear quarter panel needs to be replaced, and thats alot of labor, so that might put me over.

Ive heard of stories, to just hit it! But when it happens, instict tells you to NOT TO. I kinda wish i did hit it. Id rather have a noce little ding and some blood, than what you see. The thinkg is, im not used to things in the road. Im from the city, and you dont see too much. This road is dark, and all woods. Ive hit like two things (squirells) in my life. So this took me by surprise.

What do they consider the value? Wholesale, trade-in value?
