Does anyone know if the passenger side driveshaft bracket on a zetec equipped focus mounts to the block or the alluminum bulkhead? I really need to know this info for my upcomming tranny swap. I have an spi and I'm putting an mtx-75. I'm also swapping to the zetec bulkhead. basically if it bots to the bulkhead I've got it made but if that axle bracket bolts to the block I'm screwed. I really need this info if anyone can help. Thanks.

You mean the bracket that holds the intermediate shaft? Its been awhile since I removed one, IIRC its the bulkhead. If it hasnt been aswered for sure, I will crawl up under my frineds car on lunch break and scope it out.

sorry bro, bolts to the block. Can you get the escort block drilled for the bracket? or maybe just weld it on?

Exactly, pass side intermediate shaft bracket. I'm guessing the bracket bolts up to the bulkhead with two bolts.

P.S. No need to go under the car, I've got local monkeys I can pester to take a looksee myself. No need to get dirty on account of me.

sorry. I checked the manual too and the instructions say "unbolt bracket from the block".

Can you not tap the block for the bracket? Are the bolts that deep?

I don't want to be drilling holes or welding the side of the block and weakening or distorting it. On the spi focus block the raised pads with the bolt holes stick out like an inch or more from the block. The zetec bulkhead has two big bolt holes right where the axle bracket would be and I don't know what else could possibly bolt up to that really.

So did you actually see it bolted to the block of a zetec or just going from what the manual says?
 
I read in the book and then I crawled under a strange focus and checked.

When I did the tranny swap a while back I seem to remember the bracket attatching to the back of the block. What exactly is this bulkhead thingy you speak of? It sure looks like the block to me, but I dont want to get you twisted if Im just too dumb to recognise what Im looking at.

the bulkhead is basially the top half of the two piece oil pan the zetec has. It's that alluminum windage tray block stiffener thingamabobdohickie. I looked at it again and the two big bolt holes are actually on the radiator side of the bulkhead and no the firewall side. i believe those two bolts i was looking at are for the cat bracket instead.

Looks like i'm going to try and machine a plate that will mount to the motor mount bolt holes in the side of the block and make it go all the way to the bulkhead and bolt it in there as well to triangulate and solidify the mounting. I'll post pics in spi tuning so everyone can see the differences.
