Do a compression test before you yank the motor.
The only thing that would cause it not to start but crank(head wise) would be if the cams were out 180deg.
If you didn't pull it before and mess with the timing belt/cams, there is no reason for that.
No reason to yank the engine if the compression is fine.

quick question, how easy was the install?
Pull the accessory belt - or bypass the s/c pulley - and try to start the engine. If you can get it to run, is the noise still there?
If so, it is an engine problem ... and I'd say the oil relocation probably wasn't hooked up right and you had oil starvation (assuming you were using a filter with an anti-drainback valve).
If not, can you turn the s/c by hand? The s/c's are pre-run to boost pressure before they are boxed up so it is unlikely there is a bearing issue. If it can't be turned, perhaps something fell down the throttle-body opening during your install and wedged itself into the rotor set.

Has the timing been checked? I had a CRX long ago that started and drove fine and got me to my destination w/o any issues - never over-rev'd it on my drive that I could recall. But the next time I went out to start it, that damn thing just wouldn't start - killed a couple of batteries and went crazy tracking electric and fuel issues. When I finally pulled the timing cover, the belt had somehow hopped a tooth - throwing the timing off.
I've never heard of it happen on a Focus, but something else to consider.

wouldnt the new owners ECU just have to be reflashed?

just a word of advice call the Powerworks guys first before you start ripping everything apart...there's a guy named Jeff Clark up there thats very helpful... I'm sure he can try to help you out. Did you get a chance and take the S/C belt off and start it back up? check your compression and leak your motor. is it possible you accidently dropped something in the motor when you were putting it back together?
