Seating Options... SVT specific, kinda...

I highlighted the important part if you don't feel like reading all of this...

Okay, I am thinking out loud here hoping that I can get some input. I drive a Sonic Blue 2002 SVTF, Seats are Black leather with the Blue Inserts down the middle (identical fabric Blue inserts are in the door panels too, if you aren't familiar with the SVT).

The seats aren't quite what I want, but I am having a hard time figuring out how to fix it. If at all possible I would like to keep the heating and side airbags that are currently in the stock seats and I especially want them to look like they fit with the rest of the interior, but I want the racing seat type bolstering and padding (side bolstering mostly)

So as far as I see it, my limited options are:
1) get a set of "real" racing seats - like Sparco Torino's or Recaro SRD's and I lose heating and side airbags and they won't match the rest of the interior.
2) the European Edition's Recaro's are perfect as far as comfort goes, but they are all black leather (so won't match the interior) and aren't exactly cheap, if I can even find them.
3) Live with what I have
4) Now, finally, here is the question I have. Would it be possible to have a custom auto upholstery shop, or some other type of shop, hack apart my factory seats, and re-weld or modify the existing seat frame, to make it more like the sparco's or Recaro's. Basically add more side bolstering and put better foam in the factory seat. To me, that doesn't seem like it would be too difficult, but hopefully some experts will chime in and tell me if I'm crazy or not.
Thanks,
Jon

Options 1 and 4 sound like a pain in the ass. Use Option 2 and reupholster the back seats to match (or lose them altogether).

Or you could use Option 3 and get yourself a CG-Lock instead for those twisty backroad runs.

A CG lock has given me added comfort with track driving but it's still not quite like a bucket seat. For mountain driving and other street twisties a CG lock is more than enough IMO.

Personally I'd just get some bucket seats and live with not having airbags, so Option 1.

The only drawback to aftermarket seats are the lack of side air bags.
Yes, and I personally wouldn't trade a potentially life saving device for a seat that would hold me a little better in a turn. But thats all personal preference as well.

I say hold out till you find the Euro Package seats, they're sweet as hell. Next, seriously pm me if you decide to sale your seats

Thanks for the replies everyone. I still have a little research to do, but so far, it looks like I'll be going with a set of front Euro edition SVT seats, then maybe get them recovered sometime later.

01YellaZX3, you're first on the contact list when/if I get rid of my stock set.

I am looking on the European Ebays. A set of the Sparco's that came in the RS would be Fantastic! But I think I agree with BmoreZX3, shipping oversea's has got to be excessively expensive. Thank everyone, and keep the ideas coming...

I also like the idea of getting some Euro edition Recaros, but I think they'll be hard to come by. I actually just got a message from a friend of mine that works at Recaro. I wrote her a few weeks ago to see if she knew where I could get some seats. She told me that they were built at one of their German plants and then shipped to Mexico, but once they were done building, they just scrapped out the extra 100 seats that they had since they "couldn't do anything with them." AAAHHHHHHHHH. I just had to tell that to somebody else because misery loves company you know. She said that they have 1 seat left and it's a display in the lobby, I think I'm going to tell her to keep an eye open for when that's ready to move.

After a fair amount of looking I think I have decided what I'm going to do...

Recaro's new "Speed" line, that replaces the "SRD" seat from last year, comes in black leather and blue fabric and almost perfectly matches the factory SVT pattern. They are amazingly comfortable too. At this point I'm thinking it is going to cost way too much to get what I want while keeping the heating and Airbag features of my current seats. I didn't want to do go without side airbags, but I stil have th efront two, and not all cars have side airbags, so I'm still not in a bad position, let's just hope I can avoid getting T-Boned or sideswiped too hard in the future.

Thanks for the input everyone, and keep it coming if there's anything else to add.
I'll post pictures once I get everything in.

The amount of cool stuff that gets destroyed because the company doesn't want to deal with it or due to a contractual agreement could fill a small country.

I don't mean to frustrate you, but just imagine your car looking like this:

Note: This is not my car, and I do not know whose it is. I found this pic here on the jet last year some time.
