twist counter clockwise

 

the boot is just pressed past a lip that holds it there. just pull down on the boot. only prob with mine is i stretched it out pulling it off past the knob, now it wont sit back on where it was... sucks...
use a wrench and the knob comes off easy, it has a spot on the bottom for an open end wrench

 

there have got to be a dozen threads here regarding this subject.

pull up the shift boot (the bottom pops out of the console--use a flat prying tool) and on the bottom of the shift knob there are flats to stick a wrench. The knob is stuck on with locktite so it takes a little leverage to get it off the first time. You won't get it off just by twisting it by hand.

^^ You don't even have to use a tool if you - huh huh - squeeze it right. Just pinch the rearward facing corners of the boot and pop it off - Voila! No scratched console.

 

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry about not searching on here but I looked on google to try and find a "how-to" and nothing came up, hence the reason I asked here.

And just to clarify I have a sst so I can already get the knob un screwed it was just getting the knob off the boot was my issue.

The boot is tightened around the knob with a twist tie threaded through the top.

Lift the boot out of the console (as desribed above) and pull it up over the top of the knob so it's inside-out. You'll see the little zip tie and can snip it.
