used to work at Sears and was so paranoid that would happen. i'd put a car on the lift, raise it about 3", and shake it by pressing down on the front bumper. if that thing swayed even a little, i brought it back down and re-did it. took forever and got me in hot water with the manager often, but i didn't care. last thing i wanted was to be underneath a car and have that happen.

Uhhhh why should you never do your own work??? If your capable, whats the problem?

I never take my car anymore to these shops for tire mounting. I lift my car and leave it on jackstands while i take the wheels and tires to a shop for mounting separately.
x's 2 on that one. The only thing it goes in for is inspection.

I've always wondered what he undeside of an Elise looks like..
Apparently there isn't much to look at. Link

I once saw a vid at a local shop where they had a lift BREAK and drop a Brand new Fancified Silverado on its side. Luckily nobody was hurt, but I'm sure the alignment guy nearly crapped himself as the lift broke...

If i had the money for that kind of car. I wouldnt be takeing it to some ma and pa shop. Right to the dealer. Hell the dealer would probley pick it up for him and bring it back.
dude its just a lotus, a place like goodyear should be able to service it... Dealers are dealers, they almost ALWAYS charge way to dam much for service on cars, no matter what the price range is. Dealers are again dealers and they can screw up just like they do with "cheaper" cars.

I am going to guess he lives in a better area, and in better areas, ALL cars tend to go up in price. If that shop is in that area they BETTER know how to service these cars...

Then again he tried to get them to read the manual, and they were too stupid to realize this was not a Chevy.

That is what you are SUPPOSE to do with every car!!! At the shop I worked at they were a bit paranoid about lifting cars and there was one lift that was supposedly "certified" as being ok to use. No one in the shop really trusted it, and it was never used. Then the shop was getting busier so someone decided to try and use the lift...

As the car was being lowered latches released and the arm of the lift swung out from the car and the car hit the ground. Much less damage than the lotus (was a few feet from the ground) but it was a beater so it was totaled.

After that i will never mess around with lifts. Most places i have ever been if there is ANY question about a car being steady, people tend to just use a drive up lift instead.

Also most shops stopped using that kind of lift as far as i know because too many people feel they are unsafe/unstable.

on a related note, i would TOTALLY drive an Elise as my primary/only car :D
I have a childhood friend who Auto-X's with my local region.
He was sort of a borderline ******* "wild cannon" back around 1980, but showed SOME potential of being a "Good Kid".
Now he works for a High Tech Firm in Oak Ridge, TN, lives in $500+k house, and uses his Elise as his Daily Driver/Auto-X car.
Toatally Different guy these days, but at least he "Keeps it Real" and actually Enjoys the car as an All-Around Vehicle.
:)

If that was my car, I'd be dragged from the shop bloody :mad:

You know, normally I agree with you.

Not this time. Are you drunk?

I'd take an Elise over a 330 ANYDAY, unless the 330 had a trunk full of money.

Not a big fan of the Porsches then, are ya?:p

Holy crap, I never noticed that... an Elise has 62% of its mass on the back wheels?!?!!? What the hell did they do that for? Or is the driver far enough forward that it counteracts that to some extent? That is kinda lame.

Yea its kinda lame but the car is considered probably the best handling car in the world.... :screwy:

When a car is as lightweight as an Elise you can have alot of trouble putting down power so they probably put more weight over the rear tires so you can power out of corners. Very similar to why Porsche's have most of their weight over the rear wheels.
