What is the best gap to set the spark plugs at for a 02 Focus SVT? And also what are the best plugs to use?

Stick with the Motorcraft plugs. Can't go wrong with OEM replacements. IIRC the gap is .050". Just go to Ford and pick up a set. They should be able to look up in their database the proper gap for your plugs, and most plugs come pregapped from the factory. Make sure you have a gap feeler (and not one of those ramped coin styles, those things suck. Ideally you would have a metal plate feeler or angled metal tube feeler that would do the trick for you.

Welcome to the Jet, by the way!

Where are you stationed? I'm on Ft. Lewis (TDY at Ft. Eustis for BNCOC).

Hey, both of you dudes... Thank you for your service!

Oh yeah, I like dbl plats, and low resistance cores, but OEM is good, too. If you have low resistance wires you can over gap slightly to get more spark.

Yea I haven't heard anything bad about NGK V-Power so I went with those..I got a demon coil pack with 8.5 Live Wires but I still trying to find a good gap for the plugs. Alot of DSM guys have been telling to to go ahead a gap at .040 - .045
So i will give it a shot ..

Some say that you can open up the gap to .060-.065 with the Screamin' Demon and LiveWires. IIRC Focus Fanatics Magazine (RIP) did a test and they opened up the gap to the .060 spec, and had no difficulties, but a lot of people advise against going that wide open.

Yeah, I won't do it on a svt motor. On my old zetec, I could get away with it using a MSD coil and wires.

But on my SVT with stock ignition, I gapped them at .065 to try to squeeze out a little power, and i'm crack the white part of 1 or 2 plugs every 1K miles.

So I only gap them at .050 now.

M1 Tanker? Sweet! My cousin Johnny was a Lt. with a platoon of M1's out of Twenty-Nine Palms with the USMC. Good stuff!

Anyway, Focus Fanatics [sic] magazine did open the plugs up on an SVT with Screamin' Demon coil and plugs, and saw a gain of a few whp at upper rpm ranges. Still remember the chart in grey, showing stock/with the wide-open plugs/s.d.c.p. side-by-side (or top to bottom?): IIRC it was 2-3 whp; don't know if that was SAE Net, or what temp/barometric it tested at--remember, elevation affects output.
