sparkplug torque

hi, i dunno very much, so for plug AZFS22C-F4, what socket size do i need to replace the plugs and what torque? do i gap the plug to 1.3 mm (0.051 inch)? thanks

spark plug socket size is 5/8ths

focus manual says spark plug torque is 15 N-m (11 ft-lbs)

and manual says 1.3mm gap, but if you buy plugs from the auto parts store and ask for plugs for the focus zetec, they should come pregapped.

Never trust pre-gapped plugs. I know I don't trust them. I always check the gap.

thanks for all the help, everyone! i am not boosted, only running intake and 2 1/4 exhaust. after reading the NGK info on their website, i frequently rev it really high and live in a cold climate where the air is really dense. i also read on the forums here that AZFS22C-F4 was the best for the 2.0 zetec even though it is one step colder? the post also said to gap to 1.3mm, but sorry, don't remember how to get to the post. honestly, i am only choosing this plug because of what i read here. what is good about copper core anyways? what should i gap it to if i am not boosted and run 91/92 octane gas? or should i just use the stock dual tip platinum oem plug? i am not sure what the AZFS22C-F4 gap is from the Ford dealer but i will find out today or tmr... thanks again

Why are you running anything other than 87 octane? I'll save my breath though...run whatever gas you like. If you're going for weight reduction via the wallet, you're good to go.

The Motorcraft AZFS22C plugs are good if you can get a good deal on them at a dealership...I wouldn't pay more than $2.00 apiece for them. You should look into the NGK TR6 plugs. They're one-step-colder as well, plus they can be found at just about any auto parts store. Around here, the stores stock Motorcraft plugs, but not the AZFS22C.

sure, i live in northern alberta, canada, temp range: -22 deg F to 10 deg F in the winter and max 80 deg F in summer but also at altitude 2000 ft so maybe the air isn't that dense!?? i run 91 octane because i need the extra gasoline detergents in premium to clean out my engine!!?? esp. Shell V-Power which was really proven to have way more detergents than other brands in Canada!??!? So is there any benefits/harm to running that colder plug or should i stick stock?

I've actually been curious about that marketing claim lately...can I see some documentation on that? Who proved that it has more detergents? Also, BUR is right....the additive package should be the same across all grades of Shell gas. The extra octane is just building up deposits and doing the opposite of what you want.

antiseize compound sure is expensive. 15 dollars CAD for a jar. I put a tiny bit on the thread?? and installed them yesterday. now the car pulls smoother from about 1.1krpm upwards in 4th/5th gear. when i removed the OEM platinum plugs, they were almost gone!!!! engine seems smoother now? plugs were pre-gapped to about 0.054?

didn't find any dielectric grease yet, but do i put in on the porcelain or direcely on the top of the plug where the wire goes on? if the connection is not tight, won't this inhibit conduction?

dunno about the Shell V-Power but after reading your comment about octane deposits, i now used Safeway no-name generic regular gas with 7cents off / litre 97.9 cents/ litre.

hand tighten & then 1/4 turn with your ratchet

Ummm thats wayyy too tight for an aluminum Head. Hand tighten them, then just give them a slight twist with your hand on the head of the ratched.
