does anyone have a stock dyno kicking around offhand?

also, I was wondering, what should be the ideal shifting point on my car? my dad got mad at me when he was driving with me and I shifted at 5,200RPM, he says I should be shifting at 4,000RPM to keep it in the optimal powerband..

but I think 5,200RPM is right, does anyone else have an idea.. on a stock Zetec Motor?

shift point for hard driving? For hard driving, 5200 rpm is too low. Peak power is probably around 5200-5500, but you should be shifting around 6200 to drop yourself back into the peak power.

As for normal driving, both 5200 and 4000 are too high for optimal mileage.

well yeah I know those are way too high for normal driving, I'm talking about under WOT,

6,200? isn't that reaching the redline (is there even one?)
but the next time I wrench the car I'm going to try around 6,200rpm..

The stock fuel cut (rev limiter) is set at 6750rpm. But the actual "redline" when the Zetec's stock parts are at their limit is over 8000rpm. You will be fine shifting at 6200rpm which puts you right back into the powerband.

In my signature is a link to my personal homepage which has links to stock dynos of a 2.0 Zetec with an ATX transmission.

5200 is far too low. 4 cylinder cars make their power right around redline, very peaky. You're better off shifting around 6200-6500. Yes, there is a redline at 6500. The stock rev limiter (fuel cutout) is 6700.

If your dad was complaining about you hitting your optimal powerband he was dead wrong about 4k. Your car will fall flat on its face if you shift at 4k if you're going for speed, not to mention you're not coming close to making peak power.

Heres a 2.0 zetec 5spd. Onlt mod at the time was a K&N cone fliter. The curves are what you're looking for anyway. Your best bet is to shift just about 6k that drop you to about 4k in the next gear.

Now if you had a chip....that's a different story.
