So I just picked up Foonie's SVT EAP on Tuesday, last night on the way to dinner (90mi away) this ****head with a trailer on a subaru outback/forester randomly swerved in to my lane and almost hit me, naturely I flipped them off. I was driving the speed limit, they were slower, I changed lanes to pass, no clue why they did this. So they get back over, I go to pass again, they wait until I'm even closer, and cut me off again! I drop down to 4th, and go around them on the right as fast as possible cuz this dude is scaring the **** out of me, go to shift to 5th... not in 5th, 6th.... not in 6th. It was my birthday and we were headed to awesome steak, so I said **** it and drove it a 5k rpm and 65mph to our destination, then AAA'd it home. Too bad I don't drink, that would've been a perfect designated driver situation.

That being said, the shifter doesn't want to move, it's in roughly the 4 th gear position. I can FORCE it forward, but it doesn't change gear. If I pull it back, it moves pretty freely, then locks back again. On the trans, the counterweight is towards the drivers side and again I can FORCE it away from me to the passenger side, but to my knowledge it doesn't change gear. I had absolutely no way of changing any gears.

While looking for something else the other day, I saw a thread about a similar problem (can't remember if it was Getrag or MTX75 though) and a bolt shears off on the shift mechanism in the trans, which sounds kind of like my problem, but I can't find it now to save my life. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Does it feel like the clutch is engaging at all? Check for mater or slave leaks? If you have someone press on the clutch pedal can you manually shift it under the hood?

Edit - I meant master, I guess a mater slave would look like this:

Clutch is 100% fine. I wasn't kidding when I said I drove 8mi in stop and go traffic in one gear.

It engages and disengages completely normally. It's definitely not that.

Foonie, no dramas. It's not like this was something you knew was coming. There were no symptoms at all. One second it was fine, the next it wasn't. I don't blame you or hold anything against you.

Did you try shifting it from the linkage on the trans while someone pushes on the clutch? That will immediately tell us if it's an issue with the trans or the shifter/cables.

I hadn't had a chance to mess with it because I was working on my car. I had a lull where the guy working on my car was doing something and I had to mess with her car. I found the problem though, the lower/larger cable disassembled itself. The white twisty springy thing that locks the cable on the bracket broke, so the cable wasn't moving in the shroud, the whole thing was moving.

Tried to get it out, unsuccessful. I think this will be a little more in depth than originally anticipated, but better than the alternative.

Thanks for the help guys. I think the one pic depicting the broken screw in the trans I saw made me expect the worst, but I really had no clue because I didn't have time to play with it.

It's kind of a beeotch to get the cables on and off, and I find it easier to do from under the car. The spring loaded adjusters do like to come apart from time to time, and they aren't easy to reassemble in the car, either. If the cables have never been touched in that car, it might not be a bad idea to order up a new set from Steve. Glad to see it's just a simple cable issue, though.
