SVT/Mini Cooper S Tranny

I dont know if you guys know but the tranny in the mini cooper s is the exact tranny in our svtf's. So any parts they come out with for the mini s will fit our svt's. I thought that was kinda cool.

but i remember reading that they couldn't fit shorter gears in the (svt) tranny, so why would the cooper s tranny be any different?
if they are different, does anyone have the numbers to compare the ratios?

Here are the gear ratios for the mini cooper s

Overall Gear Ratios
1 : 11.425:1
2 : 7.181:1
3 : 5.397:1
4 : 4.407:1
5 : 3.656:1
6 : 2.986:1
Final Drive : N/A
Differential : Open

Now, here is a link to quaife which offers a new product(Dog Engagement) toward the bottom of the page. I am not that familiar with gear ratios etc, so I don't reall know what benefit this would have, could someone enlighten us/me?

While you most likely could swap the Cooper S gearbox into the Focus, I doubt you would want to, since it seems that the Mini gears are taller (ie lower rpm at a given speed) than those in the Focus.

There are some posts on the mini2 message board from owners considering the opposite - swapping the SVT Focus gearbox into the Cooper S so that they can get lower gearing.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No, the Mini Cooper S gears are taller than the standard SVT Focus gears, so if you put the Mini gearbox in the Focus you will accelerate slower that with the stock gearbox.

Yes, the potential top-speed is higher, but only if you have the power to push the car to that speed. You can put whatever gears you like in it, but unless you make the engine produce more power you are not going to get it to 160mph.

Edit: sorry, I thought you were talking about the Mini gearbox.

Never drove a road car with em though.

It has been a while, but I believe that I was told that shorter gears for first and second are actually too large to fit inside the transmission case that was made by Getrag for the SVT, so that is why. He could have been referring to the final drive ratios though - I can't be positive at this point.
