Anyone know if there is a larger TB for the '05 D20? If so, is it worth the money to install one? Just curious.

Yes, there are. FS offers the Cosworth 67mm TB, Steeda has a 65mm TB, CFM has a TB, etc. etc.

Steve asked the best question though. What are your other mods?

They're worth the money you spend on them, although, it's better left alone, and not upgrade to a aftermarket throttle body until doing a lot of mods, or adding F/I.

Thus far, NO mods under the hood. At all. Some guy I know (non-Focus owner) recommended a TB upgrade. My planned upgrades are the usual suspects: intake, exhaust, etc. etc. I didn't think a TB upgrade was necessary at this point, or even after upgrading my intake. Just curious about the benefits of a larger TB and availability of parts.

FORDSVTPARTS. I have one of his. You can actually downshift now, which was very difficult before. I think it's worth it just for how it changes the way the car drives. Also probably the easiest throttle body to install of the cars I've played with.

Cool. I'm going to have to look into that throttle body then. I would like one that gives it better throttle response, but is yet going to give it at least a little power. You know what I'm saying? I don't want it to be useless.

yeah i have a factory ported to 65 mm on my 05' from steve, and it works great, it has made my throttle response very touchy. when i first got it, it was hard to get it into gear without giving too much gas and spinning just abit off the line everytime, but now that i'm used to it it's cool. I tried driving soem other manual, happened to be an 07' corevette, but when i put it in gear i killed it cause i am used to giving so little gas to get it in, so it takes a while to get used to, than once you get used to it, it's harder to drive other stock manuals. i am assuming you have a manual

Nothing but if I have the choice. I'm 24 now, and I've owned around 10-12 vehicles since I was 14. Only 3 has been automatics. I've never really had a problem of killing another vehicle with a standard trans, or about killing it, but rather getting used to it. It's really different when you swap to something other than what you drive. I will agree.

For instance, try going from a '92/'96 F150 with a 5 speed to a Mustang GT with a 5 speed. They're completely different, and it takes getting used to. I've also done this with the same truck, and going to an SVT Focus. Wow..... I could drive it, and scare the salesman like I can in a Camaro, or Mustang, but it took a little getting used to on shifting. The handling's not the hard part, it's getting through the gears right that matters to me.

What's the max FORDSVTPARTS will bore a stock throttle body? Does he only go to 65mm, or will he go to 67mm, or what?

It can only go to 65. Otherwise it's the cosworth one. A tb isnt the way to get the best "go" though. If you really want to go, get a turbo and if you want to go pretty fast in a different way and possibly save a little dough, bolt on the heck out of it. Either way a tb wont help more than a couple hp.

tb is just not a first mod, your not going to be happy with the feel/dollar ratio. get a cai, costs less and way more power.

Yeah, pretty much what everyone else said, you're wasting your money. Don't get me wrong, later on in a build TB's make a huge difference. But for the money/difference as a first mod, IHE is the way to go. (Intake, Header, Exhaust) If I was you, I'd buy either the FS/f2/cosworth or whatever other intake you want, then look into focussport's exhaust, it's the best out there for our cars.

a TB is great. it makes the throttle repsnse quicker and pedal feels lighter.
Alex's post here is a textbook example of the many past posts that have perpetuated the TB-onto-a-stock-Focus-gives-more-power myth, but for valid reasons...

Most of the more-power impression is due to simply a throttle cable-to-lever pivot change at the TB itself... it actually makes the throttle open quicker in a much less linear fashion which can give the impression that the car has more power.

Well, I know the throttle body isn't going to give you but a few hp. It's rated at 3-4, but I say it's if that. You may only see 1 or 2 maybe? But I also agree that it's not a first mod, unless you want responsiveness.

Yes, you can port a stock throttle body. I believe that the site, www.focushacks.com will tell you exactly how to port a throttle body for a Zetec, and I don't see why it would be much different from a Duratec. I could be wrong though.
