Also wht is the difference between and DSI motor, and a IMRC. please be very clear. I have gotten the p1518 code. but I looked on the forums and everyone when throwing the p1518 code complains of a ticking. I hear no ticking just fuel injectors and a motor. However, there are on some occaasions when he car sounds way throaty than normal, and throttle response seems to decipate. When it first sounded throaty like more than normal the light came on and has been on ever since. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My IMRC is cable driven and is located below the headlight on the driver's side. You can trace the cable from the throttle body down through the wheel well. We want to help as much as possible on here, but did you search on here before posting your question?

And yes I did do much searching. I couldnt find anything on why my engine light came on because im not experiencing any of the clicking noises but just really throaty noise and less throttle response(slight)

Wht cable do you speak off? and I believe the ST170 and SVT have different place ment of the IMRC. American is actually behind the manifold and the Euro is in the left front wheel weel
You've got me then. I assume I have an "american" because I am here in the states. It may be "euro" because mine is located in the front left wheel well. The cable runs from the IMRC through a hole in the wheel well all the way to the intake and is attached by a clip.

I guess you guys dont want me to support the focus community or Mr Steve do you? I have plenty money to spend on parts but no one will give me their 2 centsgoing or could be the problem. Wht gives?
It's a Saturday night, people don't come to the forum to serve you. Patiently wait for a reply, and be grateful when you get one.

If you have plenty of money and want to spend it now, take the car to a dealer.

Chances are, most people haven't dealt with this. My SVT has 195k on it and I've never so much as looked at the IMRC box for more than a few seconds.

And Like ChargedFocus said, the IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) box is under the drivers side headlight. A cable goes from it to the DSI (Dual Stage Intake) clip, and when the cable is pulled/released it moves the clip which moves the manifold. I've never touched it, so I don't know how to take it apart

The box behind the intake manifold is the cruise control.

The IMRC (intake manifold runner control) is the motor that rotates the runners inside the DSI (dual stage intake) manifold. The motor is a smallish metal box located in the driverside front wheel well under the headlight, and a cable connects it to the "DSI lever" on the DSI directly underneath the throttlebody. You probably don't hear ticking because the motor is completely dead.

Oh trust me I am grateful.I love all the guys and focus fanatics on this sight. I dont know where my car would be without this site. But I will look into the motor under the wheel weel.

well i located the box. If its comlpetly dead should I just remove it until I get a new one? also how much would it cost to get a new one. And the freaking bolts are rusted so i just used pb blaster and im gunna wait a few. thanks all

Okay so I located that clip under the throttle body and when I pulled the throttle it moved at about 5000 rpms. So if that moves does tht mean the motor is working? and if it is how the hell am i getting the p1518 code

hit up Steve

Last I saw him quote someone the IMRC was in the neighborhood of $186

yes that means it is working

maybe it was stuck or something, and intermittently fails

or maybe there is a sensor wire that is broken, so the ECU commands the move but doesn't know it is happening.

Either way a datalog would be useful to tell you what is wrong, do you have the ability to take one?

If the DSI is moving at 5000rpm you don't need to remove the IMRC motor... it sounds like it's working fine.

Mine was moving fine when I checked, but I was still getting the code. I believe I had an intermittent problem. I replaced the IMRC box and all good now.

Mine was also intermittent before it failed entirely.

Light on, code set, light off, light on, code set, frown, call Steve, install new IMRC control module, light off, all is well in the world.
