Unsupported equipment failure on OBD-II inspection

I took my car out for its state inspection today and it failed the "emissions" portion, which is a plug-in OBD test. The catalytic converter, both oxygen sensors, the EGR, the evap system, and the "secondary air" all came back as "unsupported" which is a failure. I'm not sure what this means but the garage said it most commonly happens when the battery is replaced or a trouble code is checked but not cleared from memory. Neither of these has happened.

The car had FocusSport tuning for 93 octane. Last year it passed inspection with this tuning but the state has changed their inspections since then. Could this have caused it?

In the mean time I've reflashed the ECU back to stock and I'm going to follow the owner's manual recommendations for when the battery fails. Any other advice?

if the tune isnt needed to support mods you might want to flash back to stock and run the car for a 100 miles or so than try again. once you pass just reflash with the fs tune.

if you dont drive it after the flash you will fail again so id say do it a couple days before you plan on having it done again.

Pitch, I'm not sure if our Duratec's are the same, or not.

I know when I had my old Zetec I had to use the "generic" OBD-II cable, because the Ford OBD-II cable wouldn't support the ECU in my car for some reason.:dunno: Could they possibly have had faulty software?

Does the FS tune disable all emissions stuff? That would be a great explanation...I agree, flash it back to stock if you can, drive it for 100 miles and get it retested.

Brad, I don't think that the FS tune disables all emissions stuff. I think it basically by-passes the O2's, re-maps fuel delivery, spark, etc., but not disabling all emissions.:dunno: Don't hold me to that, but I know you can get more personalized tunes turning the air pumps for PZEV off, and everything.
