Weight, cost and noise.

The poly cam cover is three pounds lighter in weight, it is cheaper to manufacture and I would think it that dampens valvetrain noise a bit better than the aluminum version.

i wish they made more for the 05 focus, and had a site here in the us
That valve cover will fit an '05 Focus just fine.

They don't really make any Focus parts. They're a Lotus company. However, the Duratec engine is used in a lot of Lotus Seven replicas.

And some Duratec powered Elise like this:

Be still, my trembling heart.

Put these two points together:
" - 2nd to 5th gear the engine is always above 194 lbs.ft torque
- 198 lbs.ft torque"
And just imagine how flat that torque curve must be.

Edit: I hate to drag this thread off-topic, but with the cubic GBP that have been pumped into that Elise, is there any good reason they're not using coil-on-plug?

I was thinking the samething myself? Why the hell would you not use coil on plugs....

That carbon fiber valve cover will not fit our us spec foci. There is no provision for the coil on plugs to bolt down to. And there is no hole in the center for the cylinder head temperature sensor.

Why not put an 03/04 2.3 valve cover on?

And do you know that the zetecs from late 00 up are plastic? Only early 2000 cars had a magnesium valve cover.

Ford is on a pattern of starting out with a metal valve cover and then taking it away for various reasons.

You're a spoilsport, but damned if you're not right. It might be possible to drill it and resin the correct fittings into place, but I wouldn't do it on my $700 valve cover.

There's always Cosworth's purely-show version.

Edit: Oh wait.
"Does not fit Focus or Mazda vehicles without extensive modification to coil cover."

When you look at duratec engines and parts all day long like I do, you start to notice these things. :D

But Yes It could be made to work. I can make an aluminum rail for the coil hold downs that would sit in the valley and use the existing bolt holes. And drilling for the temp sensor is no big deal.
