just fill out the thing on edmunds about getting a new car, spec it out and the places will call/email within an hour to talk about pricing.

 

Probably because it's easier to deal with people you know, than some random shmuck at a dealership. Plus if it's someone you know, and you take your business to them, they get the money from the sale instead of aforementioned shmuck.
