ok, i installed my water temperature guage that gives me an exact temperature, this guage is electronic with three wires, pos+, neg-, and sensor. aha... the problem is the sensor. i bought one of those electronic service manuals that explains everything about my car and it said the sensor was under the left side of the fuel rail, by the cam gear cover.

so, i found the two wires coming from it, i spliced in the sensor wire into the circuit to each wire at a time, the white wire kicked on my fan and kept it on, the second wire pegged out my stock temp guage.

do i even have the right sensor? where the hell do i hook this up?

did you not get an actual sensor? ...like a small copper thing??? if you did the best thing to do is drill and tap a hoe in the top of your thermostat housing...it's REALLY easy

just make sure you get the 2 new gaskets required....and while you have it apart, get a 180deg thermostat!

hope this helps

that thread didnt do much for me, and im not paying anyone to do this, its electronic, not mechanical, so no fittings or sensors came with it, its just a sensor wire that taps into somewhere... where i dont know and need to know... please someone help before i install an ice pick to the sensor wire and install it in many places...

I thought it would be helpful because it explains why your guage doesn't work when you splice into the CHT sensor.

You will need a sensor for your guage and, if it were me, I would either T off the CHT sensor or take FocusedOne's suggestion.

Hope this helps.

uh buddy....mine IS ELECTRICAL.... and there has to be an ELECTRICAL SENDING UNIT with your gague...if not...you have to BUY ONE [btw - my gague is an AutoMeter]

ok FOCAL X...I knew I read it somewhere, it just took me a while to find it.

There was a thread a while back about installing electrical guages and Noresull (our resident Ford mechanic) was telling us how to do it. Turns out that the stock Focus used the CHT sensor to read coolant temperature through the PCM. The signal that this sensor sends to the PCM is not compatible with after-market temperature guages.

It was decided that you would have to take the sensor that came with the guage (so I suspect you are missing that) and tap into the coolant system. There was a FJ member who was in the process of doing that and was going to post pictures of the install. I could not find those pictures but I will copy and paste his post along with his email address and you can email him and ask whether he has the pictures to send to you.

Focal X that gauge should have come with a sending unit you can't just splice it into the original sending unit.

yeah, could you post a few pictures because i think i know what im doing but im not exactly sure. also, i took the gauge back to the store and the other THREE boxes they had in stock that just came from the factory had no sensor in it, and the guy at the store also said he just tapped the wire in, im not sying this guy is right because he didnt own a focus. ill try to find a sensor to put in the housing tonite.
