im trying to fine out as much as i can before i have no engine yet so i cant say any years.is just i can get the mazda engine in the uk but i would have to ship the ford from America.i think the two engines are vti and have balancer shafts and from what i make out the bore stroke are the same i just want reassurance that they are the samr as ford seems to have a greater aftermarket parts.would the 2.3 duratech aftermarket camshafts fit

Ok thread revival here guys....

I'm down to one mzr/duratec as the Mazda3 went away last month.....and the other one screwed the pooch today.

Focus was running funky yesterday.
Went to start it today and instead of starting heard a rattle rattle and then what appears to be the sound of an engine with no compression.

I'll have to diagnose for sure but..looking at 2.5 duratec swap threads tonight.

So Karl offers a vct delete....

Just throw that on and one of his crower cams here :http://www.ebay.com/itm/Massive-Cro...er-Custom-Cams-Camshafts-MZR-Duratec-Fusion-Mazda-3-6-2-0-2-3-2-5-/261228927827 and I'm good to go?

So correct me if I'm wrong guys-but for a relatively simple swap thats not to much $$$ but should be quite the power upgrade...yank the 2.3 out of my 2004 ZX3 and drop in a 2010ish boneyard Fusion 2.5 complete engine with the vct disabled?

I'll need to bolt on the 2.3 timing cover-right?
Which crank sensor 2.3 or 2.5?
2.3flywheel/clutch setup?
All my engine accessories will bolt on(somehow I doubt that)?
Cossie inlet manifold bolts up but I might want to port match to the huge 2.5 ports-right?
My Cossie 2.3 header bolts up?
Obviously a tune and what-the stage 2 cams?

What else am I forgetting?

Car will probably not be a daily driver anymore used for rallyx and hopefully stage rally some day.

Some inspiration-a REAL rally car 2.5 swap(but with 2.3 head):

When I asked Karl what was needed he said this:

Use a 2.3 front cover and oil pan. Focus wiring. VCT Delete and cam.

You will use the 2.5 IM, so you will either need to make a TB adapter to use a regular cable stlye TB if its a 00-07 car or I suppose if its an 08-11 it should plug in (DBW).

^^^What he said... well. I guess what I said!!! :)

Yes, your 2.3 clutch / fw will bolt on.

All accessories bolt on.

Use the 2.3 crank pulley and CPS

header bolts up

Def need a tune.

Cossie mani "bolts" up, but you'd need to port into the gasket groove to actually line them up.

There IS a somewhat better than most OEM mani from a certain 2.5 you can use. PM for DEETS.

We ARE working on a sheetmetal mani for FWD 2.5 applications.

Thanks for the info guys.
I'd probably go Cosworth straight away for the inlet(but curious about the sheetmetal intake as well).

Porting the Cossie to the o ring groove sounds a bit sketchy-although if it wasn't opened up all the way it would probably still work ok I think....even if the ports didn't line up perfectly.

Karl-once I put your VCT delete I can pretty much run any brand 2.3 Cams-right?
There aren't specific 2.5 only aftermarket cams-right?

Any idea on what the stock cam specs are on the 2.5? Tried googling for a while and am coming up empty.

Wonder if they bumped up the specs or kept it the same as the smaller engines (minus VVT of course).

Also wonder whats the largest aftermarket cam that will fit on stock pistons. A 2.5 will respond differently to a cam thats considered "big" for a 2.0

I've been wondering that too..

In the thread below, the poster takes some chamber measurements (along with port dimensions)but that doesn't really take into account the piston shape etc...

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=317019

It seems pretty similar to 2.3 except for bore..so I would think Crane stg 2 would be about the max on stock pistons..but I'd sure double check that before running them....

Bump. Next project for me NA for sure.
Karl, could you PM me details on the IM options for this swap?
Also, what's the rev ceiling for the 2.5? Any lighter crank/pistons/rod options available at this time?
Might as well do the entire rotating assembly if I'm going to be in there.
Stupid question: does the swap require the 2.5 ecu/harness or can the focus 2.3 ecu handle business?
In a perfect world I'd like to get a '07 ST (there are many of them here in Seattle) and grab a 2.5 shortblock from a Fusion or whatnot and start swapping the requisite pieces over.
Also, 2.5" or 3" exhaust? Header recommendations?
Excited to start a new project  ...a really loud pissed off sounding project.
