just bought a used short ram intake today... beautiful new sound and performance for MY car

as long as you think the quality is good, go for it man, nothing wrong with good parts and cheaper prices.

 

Hey guys. I am just wondering who on [FJ] buys used aftermarket parts for their car as opposed to new ones. I have come to realize that with some things, used is not a problem. As far as some stuff goes, like suspension pieces for instance, I personally would rather have brand new... I have bought the following:

-SVT headlights: $80 shipped
-Volant intake: $150 at a G2G
-Steeda short throw shifter: $90 shipped
-4 Pioneer 3way 6x8" speakers: $100 no shipping needed.

So far, that is all the used stuff I've bought. While the savings are not HUGE, you are STILL saving money. Each of the 3 things I've bought used have arrived in great, practically mint condition. So, does anyone else buy used??!!

I've bought used OEM parts, does that count?

I wanted a center console with no armrest so I found one on Fleabay for $70 versus well over $100 for a new one I believe. When it arrived it was in excellent shape and I can't even tell it was not the original part.

I also wanted some of the corner lights in the bumper to test out tint spray on while keeping my factory orange ones 'just in case'. I don't recall the exact price I paid for them, but I got a great deal on those too.

You're right - there's a lot of things it makes sense to buy new, but you can save yourself a large chunk of money buying other stuff second hand with no issues. As long as the seller is honest and you know what you're paying for of course.

The only things I've bought the weren't used were my chip and UDP. The chip I didn't trust buying used and the UDP was a b-day present to myself.

One important caveat though, I've bought my used stuff from folks I know pretty well with full knowledge of their history.

 

The only 3 things so far have been FC UDP's and my Kaminari front and sides....

I bought a used Carbon Fiber Hood for 150$ (and a ten hour round trip to pick it up lol)
Used Enkei CDR9s for 450
and a Vibrant exhaust for 100.

 

almost all the parts I have on my car are used except the gauges, hood, wheels and tires. Even bought the car used.

I'm married with a child.. and it would be a whole lot easier to mod my zx3 if I wasn't

With a decent paying job ($8.00 at McDs) and eBay... I do pretty good for a kid my age. Being that I'm still in highschool, my only real expenses are car insurance and gas.

 

Well, I got my car used, and I got my springs/dampers used from a fellow jetter for $250

 

too much $ at too young? heh, you must really be mad at me then. I am 19...

back on topic, though.... I bought my 2.5" borla, magnaflow resonator, flexpipe, MSD DIS2 ignition all used. Used is the way to go if you know where it came from!

 

I've bought suspension parts used. In fact, my H&R springs were used, and so were my Konis. Both work great.
