I'm looking to do a tune up here pretty soon. So I was wondering, what's the best wire/plug set up I can do for my zx3? Any good recommendations? Thanks in advance! :evilgrin:

MSD Superconductor, Taylor (and one other that escapes my memory now) are all very low resistance and moderate impedence, spiral wound, radio-interferrence supression wires. Good quality control on both and various colors for the Taylors, red for MSD (which was the color I wanted anyway, last time I got wires... MSDs). I think you can usually get Taylors for about $5-10 less than MSDs.

you could also get the FSWerks wires lifetime warranty if im not mistaken on them

Rock Auto has some Taylors on sale, I don't know about them:
* Manufacturer: BWD/NIEHOFF
* Part No: CH8439
* Notes: Tailor Magnetic Core Wires PREMIUM WIRE SET - SELECT

Closeout Price: $16.77
Only 3 Remaining!

at that price they are OEM quality, they cant be the good ones

Best Plug is the SP463's. Those are Cooper Motorcraft Plugs. I think Ford Racing has great wires at a decent price. Mine have to be 5 years old and are still working just fine.

Same exact setup here. OEM Motorcraft plugs and FRPP wires. Unfortunately, the FRPP wires have been discontinued :(
Sorry I had the wrong Motorcraft part number. SP463 is the cooper core plugs. Best Performing plug you can stick in a Zetec. Change them on a yearly basis or whenever you feel like it. $12 for 4 plugs.

I forgot to mention that I have msd cables. How long will those go for before I have to replace them? I don't know how long they've been on the car, they were on the car when I got it. I thanks a lot on all the great info guys

On a stock engine , any plug recommended for the Zetec. For any engine that is modified. Go with the Copper Plugs. You won`t see any high horse power engine builders using platinum or iridium.

The newer elements used in plugs are for longevity, not performance. They'd have you believe they increase performance but in reality, they decrease performance as a trade off for longevity. The most conductive element used in plugs today is STILL good old copper. But, guess what? Copper wears out fastest of all elements offered today. Platinum lasts longer but at the expense of performance. Platinum is less conductive than copper which will yield less spark, all other things being equal. Iridium is somewhat more conductive than Platinum, not as conductive as copper, but lasts longer than copper.

And as far as wires go, Check the Forced Induction section. There are guy`s making 400 - 600 + hp on stock wires and coils , Ford got the ignition right.

Word, I have motocraft copper plugs and the original 75k mile coil and wires. Andy had the msd wires and coil and he had to go back to stock to make the power he made (613whp).
