Re: B**** A** Build Thread Version 3.0: This Time With Moar Buildier and Less Crappi

Progress is being made...

New Eagle Eyes foglights installed with PIAA bulbs. I do not have HIDs installed in stock housings, those are Sylvania ZXEs. Awesome bulbs, BTW.

Started work on the mount for my Hella 500 Black Magics. Why? Because overkill solves all problems.

At 147K, the plugs still come out identical to one another.

New windshield, cleared up the headlight lenses.

New air filter. The before/after is pretty alarming, the Spectre that was on there was several years old. New one gets a Filterwears pre-filter. Yes, my air filter is enormous. It will probably be used for at least a short while after I fabricate the new intake tube.

Took the Type Bs out of storage in preparation of mounting the Azenis on them, realized that I need to completely repolish them. I will also be touching up the paint in the spoke windows. It'll be nice to have these shining the way they should for the first time since I've owned them. Neither of the wheels pictures is considered to be anywhere close to done, these are just progress pictures. I've yet to use compound on them, let alone do any of the finish polishing. These are just wetsand pictures.

Nice work sir.

Regarding the P/S change, have you thought of getting a spare rack, de-powering it, and removing all those bits from the engine bay? You could really clean things up IMO.

I could, but I just don't want to delete my power steering. The car will be a DD for a while (hopefully only another couple of months), and I just could not live with manual steering with this kind of ratio on a daily basis. Plus, I'd tear up the leather on my steering wheel.

It's really not too bad! When the XR is out again, take it for a spin.

I have, and there's no way I'd want that every day

I'm still more than happy to give it another try, though. ;)

Ha! Did you drive it when I still had the lines in the car? Since then I've gutted the rack internally and filled it with grease. Night and day for sure.

Nice update Matt.
Looking forward to seeing how you implement your aero.
Keep up the great work!

I'm pretty sure I drove it in its former iteration.

Thanks! Your aero comment reminds me...

From Tuesday night: DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK

Ray taugh me how to fiberglass on Tuesday night and helped me put the FauxcusSport lip back together. We used chopped mat, four layers in the corners, to in the center, one on the sides. It is already noticeably stronger. I'll be going back tomorrow after work so we can clean/trim it up and start working with filler.

Re: B**** A** Build Thread Version 3.0: This Time With Moar Buildier and Less Crappi

New wheels will be showing up just in time for FR, probably around May 18th. That doesn't give me much time to assemble and seal them, but oh well. I will most likely put the sticky tires on them, since they are lighter than the Borbets. Street/daily duties will be delegated to the Borbets, but worry not: They will be properly cared for in spite of being everyday use wheels. They're still very valuable to me.

These FG lips are a PITA. Mine is already cracked again after a small impact -- here we go again with reglassing it and reshooting it. And nowhere near as low as you are Matt.

I'm sure mine will be cracked very quickly (though Ray and I beefed it up considerably). Some things are just worth the work.
Always liked this :) keep up the good work Matt!
Thanks! It'll be coming together well this year.

Re: B**** A** Build Thread Version 3.0: This Time With Moar Buildier and Less Crappi

What we need to do is make an injection mold and do a batch of 20 in polyeurethane.
Problem solved.
I'll take two please. I've had it with FG.

Re: B**** A** Build Thread Version 3.0: This Time With Moar Buildier and Less Crappi

Question: Can anyone confirm to me that a 2.0 oilpan fits on a 2.3 with the balance shaft deleted? My only concern I can think of for interference is the balance shaft drive gear on the crank.

Also, I just pulled the trigger on new fenders.
